Several full-time positions available with the the Water Department, Meter Field Services located at 1720 Wabash Avenue
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., or Saturday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

  • Employees who hold the exact position title, have successfully completed their 6-month probationary period, and wish to be considered for a lateral transfer into the posted position, must contact the department directly. Responsibilities

  • Involves turning water service valves on or off at designated addresses.
  • Installs or exchanges water meters and related appurtenances.
  • Checks water meters and appurtenances for leaks and/or malfunctions, as directed.
  • Uses maps and drawings to locate and dig up and/or clean out curb boxes or meter vaults.
  • Receives written work assignments, in advance, from a central office or orally by an assigned radio dispatcher.
  • Uses considerable tact and courtesy in dealing with utility customers and complaints, has general knowledge of utility operations, policies and practices.
  • Performs independently, but subject to occasional inspection by a technical supervisor.

Qualifications


REQUIRES high school graduation and 6 months experience in general construction, maintenance, or repair work. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
