ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Equity Programs Officer, the Vice President, Scholar, Family and Community Services provides executive level leadership to envision, oversee, implement and monitor a multi-year scholar, family, and community engagement vision and strategy to create a coordinated system of supports and resources that, in partnership with family and communities, foster safe and caring learning environments where all scholars flourish. The Vice President, Scholar, Family and Community Service provides vision, leadership, and direction, assuming responsibility for the day-to-day operations and success of the Scholar and Family and Community Services functions of the Alliance Schools Team. This position is accountable for the overall success of the Scholar, Family and Community Services Team in accomplishing strategic goals.

The Vice President, Scholar, Family and Community Services will lead their team in the development system-wide approaches to increase scholar achievement and success by addressing attendance/truancy, discipline, and the socio-emotional needs of scholars. Additionally, the Vice President, Scholar, Family and Community Services will lead, direct, and support the team in engaging a variety of stakeholders to develop a system-wide approach to engage and empower parents and families to act as partners in their scholar's education, as well as to develop and increase the partnerships between Alliance schools and their local communities.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

Team Management and Strategy

  • Create multi-year scholar services, family, and community engagement vision and strategy for the network, centered in a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
  • Manage a minimum of 3 (three) Director-level reports, each leading a functional area of Scholar, Family and Communities team
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Team and School Strategy Leadership Team to integrate strategies into the core teaching practices, classroom and school practices
  • Partner with Instructional Superintendents, Home Office and School Leaders to manage direct to school supports specific to attendance/truancy, discipline, and the socio-emotional needs of scholars
  • Provide leadership in parent, family, and community partnerships to develop and implement high-impact family engagement strategies that drive scholar achievement and school improvement
  • Develop and drive the implementation of strategy to reduce truancy and increase scholar attendance network-wide
  • Develop and drive the implementation of a system of responding to parent complaints
  • Develop and drive the implementation of strategy to increase scholar voice and increase scholar satisfaction within Alliance schools
  • Manage annual budget allocation

Provide Data Driven, Network-wide Cultural Leadership

  • Conduct research and analyze data to develop best system-wide approaches in addressing scholar attendance and truancy, discipline and restorative practices, socio-emotional and mental health needs of scholars, and family and community engagement and partnerships
  • Support school leaders in the development of school plans and organizational procedures for the engagement of parents, families, and communities
  • Lead and drive the development of positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and creative school cultures across the Alliance network
  • Develop, organize, and drive the effective and consistent implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and multi-tiered systems of support and/or response to intervention across the Alliance network
  • Ensure consistency across the Alliance network for fair application of consequences and outcomes for scholar misbehavior
  • Develop, organize, and conduct presentations, workshops, and trainings for parents, school leaders and staff on parent involvement, attendance, and discipline and to help improve scholar academic achievement

THE IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE/BE:

  • A proven track record of developing systems-level vision and strategy and successfully leading and managing the implementation of the vision to transform scholar culture and drive higher scholar outcomes in an urban school setting
  • Successful experience leading school leader professional development and growing school leader capacity
  • A proven track record of leading, managing, and coaching other educators to increase scholar achievement in a public, urban schools or charter schools
  • Knowledge of effective methods of program development, implementation and evaluation of methods, practices and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan for appropriate communication to multiple interest groups and stakeholders
  • Experience with Response to Intervention models, Trauma Informed Resilient Schools models, restorative discipline practices, and socio-emotional learning
  • Ability to lead effectively in a multi-layered organization and build strong relationships with teachers, coaches, school leaders and other home office and school-based colleagues
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education
  • A graduate degree in education, educational leadership, public administration or a related field from an accredited college or university

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional work experience in a related field, including at least two (2) years school leadership experience at the principal or principal-equivalent level and at least two (2) years teaching experience in a charter school or urban district setting
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Alignment with the network's philosophical approach to scholar culture and discipline
  • Commitment to Alliance's core beliefs and educational philosophy
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Google-based applications

WORK LOCATION

This position will work from a home office in the greater Los Angeles area, with travel to school sites. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work from home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience as well as generous retirement and health benefits. This position is exempt.

  • Compensation: Alliance provides a competitive salary. Based on relevant prior work experience, our salary range for this role is $125,660 - $164,800.
  • Relocation: Individuals residing outside of the Greater Los Angeles area are eligible for a relocation bonus of $5,000 for individuals and $7,500 new staff with families/partners.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plans options that are covered at 100% of monthly premiums for individual employees and at least $1,000 per month towards family plan premiums.
  • Retirement: Alliance Home Office employees are eligible for a retirement allowance equal to 7.5% of their regular yearly earnings.
  • Paid Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees accrue vacation at a rate of 10 hours/month for a maximum of 180 hours in addition to 10 national holidays as well as a week for Spring Break and a week for Winter Break.
  • Professional Development: At Alliance, we believe in supporting staff growth and development. Home Office staff are allocated $500 per year for professional development expenses.
