Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Unit Clerk are to provides assistance to the nursing staff by performing clerical and record keeping functions in a hospital with patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric experiencing medically complex conditions, general medical-surgical conditions, with rehabilitation and/or wound care needs.

The Unit Clerk duties include:

  • Demonstrates proper performance of skills reflected and validated by the Unit Clerk competency checklist.

  • Prioritizes and works independently in organizing the nursing unit station, keeping station clean and presentable.

  • Ensures call lights and telephone are answered in a timely manner and ensures messages are recorded and delivered in a timely manner.

  • Serves as liaison between physicians, staff members and other departments.

  • Answers telephone in a courteous manner exchanging information in an appropriate manner which requires good oral and written communication skills.

  • Properly plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources, manpower and supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care.

  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.

  • Adheres to CHG policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.

  • This description is a general statement of required essential functions performed on a regular and continuous basis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to project a professional image.
  • Displays positive customer service and telephone skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards, compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions (Order
    entry, data entry)

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must maintain current CPR certification throughout employment.
