Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full Time Advanced Practice Nurse for New Jersey State Prison, located in Trenton, NJ.
The Advanced Practice Nurse ensures that the total health needs of inmates within New Jersey Department of Corrections are met, including adolescents (16 to 18 years), adults (18-64 years), and geriatrics (65+).
  • Utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus.
  • Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the assigned sites.
  • Works with a variety of healthcare professionals and corrections officers in a correctional environment providing health services to inmates.
  • Serves as Administrator of Nursing Services, with clinical supervision provided by the Medical Director.
  • Provides basic medical services under a collaborating licensed physician.
  • Provides direct and indirect basic medical care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate within the framework established by New Jersey Department of Corrections.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited college/university nurse practitioner program with current Certification/Licensure.
  • BSN required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Current Certificate as an Advanced Practice Nurse.


Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in nursing or related health field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently, is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting and/or standing is required. Ability to move from unit to unit within the secure care and community residential home facilities, requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pulls. Lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities. Hearing is essential, ability to speak clearly is required. Must be able to travel within the state.Must have ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions. Must accept on call responsibilities

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
