POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is leading the Geismar facility Turnaround and Small CAP teams. The TAR & Small CAP team lead is responsible for the Planning, Estimating, Coordination and Execution of all assigned activities. The role will also be responsible to ensure that all assigned activities are completed safely, on time, on budget and meet TAR/ Project objectives. This role will act as the primary interface for Operations, Maintenance, Safety and Engineering with regards to the successful completion of TAR & Small CAP objectives utilizing internal and contract/ external resources. This position is also responsible for ensuring the plant is maintained in a safe and clean condition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental excellence.
  • Lead TAR team in outage planning and execution processes.
  • Lead Small CAP team in Project development, funding, planning, integration, and Execution.
  • Lead/ Assist plant management in identifying and prioritizing tasks during the planning and execution process
  • Ensure TAR Outage plan includes all safety, policy, preventive, predictive, project, overhaul and corrective tasks requiring equipment, unit or facility outages.
  • Lead detailed planning for prioritized work in consultation with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Ensure completeness of final TAR & Small CAP plans – including, but not limited to; isolation (blinding), required labor, parts, contractor services, special tools, equipment, documents, permits, un-isolation, commissioning activities and other associated requirements to safely, efficiently and effectively complete tasks
  • Ensure accurate estimating of time and costs for outage plans.
  • Lead outage execution plan development of MS Project/ P6 schedules for all significant plant Major Maintenance and M&R Team led Small CAP projects as assigned.
  • Lead timely and accurate procurement and expediting of all parts, equipment, and services to execute outages on schedule (ensuring the generation of RFQ’s and routing of requisitions for approval).
  • Communicate and publish outage planning/ readiness status as required.
  • Lead post review activities as required.
  • Monitor planning KPI’s and assist in identifying and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead internal & external resource teams to execute assigned activities and schedules. Activities will include scope development, estimating, schedule development, execution and financial close out.
  • Lead the execution of planned and unplanned unit shutdowns including detailed job plans, critical path schedule development, tracking and closeout activities.
  • May periodically back fill other M&R team leadership roles due to plant activity level & vacation schedules.
  • Insures proper completion of inspections and implementation of all environmental, safety and security requirements.
  • Conduct safety meetings with contractors around key practices and procedures.
  • Participate in investigations as requested.
  • Review the TAR schedule and communicate work scope priorities to the respective work force both on and off site.
  • Implements appropriate action to maintain maximum labor productivity and cost effectiveness related to TAR and Small CAP execution activities.

Other frequent duties:

  • Assist maintenance, engineering and operations management as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lead continuous improvement activities to optimize and enhance the TAR and Small CAP work process.
  • Lead the execution of TAR and Small CAP milestone schedules – (scoping process, planning, scheduling, and engineering).
  • Leads/ Assist scope development, project estimates, funding requests and execution management of Capital and Expense projects that involve replacement and/or upgrade of existing plant equipment.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, inspection, and other departments as required to assemble and develop detailed repair work plans/scopes.
  • Determine manpower levels to attain schedule milestones and monitor manpower levels and craft mixes to ensure conformance to the needed activities.
  • Develop and implement a quality assurance strategy for each TAR/ Small CAP activity to insure reliable equipment upon restart.
  • Ensure Scope Change Request (SCR) process is maintained for TAR and Small CAP cost and schedule.
  • Lead Coordination with prime outside contractors to specify requirements by craft, manpower and heavy equipment needs, coordinates with materials and contract supply specialist on written contract needs.
  • Assist in the development of contractor strategy (Routine Maintenance, TAR & CAPEX).
  • Assist with budget development and controls spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting and adjustments.
  • Assist in the development of 5-year TAR outage & Small CAP plan.
  • Communicate issues regarding forecast cost to the Maintenance Manager and other associated stake holders.
  • Monitor productivity and cost of contract work force associated with TAR & Small CAP activities.
  • Awareness of new technical developments and ability of applying new knowledge to the processes in place at REG
  • Provide personal contact information on an as needed basis for official business purposes

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: High school diploma with relative technical school/ completed apprenticeship OR relative experience will be given consideration in lieu of formal education and training.

Experience Required: Minimum 5 years’ experience leading Turnaround and/or Project teams in a process-related industry, preferably in renewable diesel, petrochemical, ethanol, chemical manufacturing environments.

Skills Required:

  • Must have demonstrated strong leadership capabilities.
  • Key skills include communication, decision quality, planning, courage, facilitation, influencing and negotiating.
  • Successful candidate must be able to foster diverse relationships throughout the organization.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for developing detailed job estimates and packages that includes drawings, photos, blind controls sheets, marked up P&IDs, and a bill of material.
  • Experience using CMMS systems such as SAP, MAXIMO, JDE, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand process flow sheets, P&IDs, specifications, and drawings.
  • Advanced knowledge of common production equipment such as centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, gearboxes, motors, electrical distribution systems, instrumentation systems and fixed equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard industrial safety procedures such as lock-out/tag-out, confined space entry, hot work permit, elevated work, blinding, isolations, purging, mobile equipment operation and permitting.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard maintenance and repair procedures such as pipefitting, pressure testing, rigging, equipment alignments, precision measurements, disassembly and assembly procedures of rotating and fixed equipment, instrument calibrations, electrical testing and maintenance of motors, sub stations and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with MS office products such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Visio.
  • Ability to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams.
  • Self-starter who effectively manages multiple tasks under time and cost pressure; assigns appropriate priorities to competing interests; and achieves results with minimal supervision.

Special skills or knowledge preferred:

Education Preferred: 4-year bachelor’s degree - Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering.

Experience Preferred: >5 years’ experience leading Turnaround and/or Project teams in a process-related industry, preferably in renewable diesel, petrochemical, ethanol, chemical manufacturing environments.

  • Advanced knowledge in Turnaround planning, execution, and coordination
  • Advance knowledge of FEL Project planning & execution methodology
  • Experience scheduling in Primavera
  • PMP Certification
