Summary

Drives diesel or gas powered tractor trailer combinations to transport and deliver products or materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain conscientiousness for safety at all times; while driving as well as performing all other duties
  • Full compliance with all FMCSA/DOT regulations and other Company policies and procedures as applicable
  • Haul, load, and handle products as assigned while maintaining efficiencies, such as fuel and best hauling and loading practices
  • Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition
  • Obtains schedule of load times and locations for the day and drives truck to destination applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skills
  • Must be able to back up and maneuver in and around tight areas
  • Maintains driver log according to DOT regulations
  • Regularly inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water
  • Makes truck and/or trailer available for scheduled maintenance
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

  • One year over the road driving experience. Driving school may substitute for 6 months of driving experience.

Required Certifications

  • Must have a valid Class A CDL with proper endorsements and a valid DOT physical card

Other Information

  • Must be at least 21 years of age due to travel requirements
  • 1 year of over-the-road experience
  • Must have a commercial drivers license (Class A), with proper endorsements and good driving record
  • Must have a current DOT physical
  • Must meet DOT qualifications
  • Must accurately and timely complete company and DOT required forms

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend over or stoop. Must be able to hook up and unhook tractor and related lines to and from trailer. The employee is required to climb and balance while getting in and out of the truck and while hooking and unhooking lines to and from the trailer. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions during all weather seasons of the year. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
