SUMMARY: The Telephone Triage Nurse is responsible for providing triage (sorting/prioritizing patients) over the telephone to assist in assessing patient care with physician.

HOURS: Full time; Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5pm (may vary depending on business needs)

LOCATION: This is a remote position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Speaks with patients over the telephone to assess their medical needs, directs them to ER/Urgent care or the physician’s office if during office hours.
• Performs short evaluation of the patient situation to estimate severity of illness and/or injury including learning about chief complaint and, as possible, obtaining vital signs and mental status information.
• Determines urgency of seeing the patient based on brief assessment and on familiarity with a patient’s condition and history. May use computerized medical information database and confers with physician when needed.
• Sets up appointments for patients who do not need to go to ER but need to see a physician or arranges for an appointment scheduler to assist patient.
• Other duties as required by position

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Graduation from an approved vocational nursing program required
• Current, active state vocational nursing license required
• Six months to one year of LVN experience preferred, but not required
• Clinic experience preferred, but not required
• Qualified candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, must be able to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, and effectively communicate and interact with diverse patient populations.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
• Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies and functions, and documentation standards.
• Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
• Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses.
• Ability to handle effectively multiple tasks simultaneously.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.34 - $27.75 per hour
