Essential Functions

  • Creates and maintains computerized databases and files for the Highway Division which are used in the preparation of cost estimates, budget tracking, monthly reports, and annual reports.
  • Coordinates personnel assignments an prepares daily reports of work completed.
  • Dispatches information to employees and other departments via all city communication system ie. radio, e-mail, and in person etc.
  • Communicates information to contractors and vendors regarding projects such as installation of traffic signals, traffic signs, parking meters, pavement markings, streetlights, gaslights, and specialty lighting.
  • Receives and responds appropriately to calls from residents, vendors; city staff, and the police department. Uses DPW customer service computerized database to record problems, assign work, and close-out requests.
  • Orders supplies and equipment; obtains price quotes and compares costs prior to making purchases; negotiates price adjustments and monitors expense budgets. Conducts .periodic inventory to ensure adequate stock, checks in shipments, and_ verifies accuracy of invoices.
  • As requested by the Engineering Division, conducts manual traffic and parking counts, documents results, arid transfers data to PC. Downloads data from automatic counting equipment to PC. Performs quality control check on the data.
  • Conducts periodic condition surveys of infrastructure, including traffic s1gns, pavement markings, parking meters; gaslights, streetlights, and traffic. igna1son as needed basis and reports findings to facilitate associated maintenance repairs
  • Records and compiles data, generates reports for construction and maintenance activities, and performs related clerical duties such as the preparation of transfer bills and processing requisitions
  • Creates, reports and distributes job costs to appropriate accounts to accurately reflect charges, and maintains records of same.
  • Participates in snow and ice removal operations and other emergencies as declared by the City. Provides support and assistance in snow and ice removal operations and other-emergencies as declared by the City.
  • Performs similar correlated duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Recommended Minimum Qualifications Physical and Ment.al Requirements

  • Employee works in a moderately noisy office setting and is occasionally exposed to fumes or Airborne particles. Employee is required to sit, talk listen, and use hands more than 2/3rd of the time; stand and walk-up to 1/3rd of the time. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 lbs.
  • Normal vision is required for the position. Equipment operated includes of office machine s and computers.


Education and Experience

A candidate for this position is required to have knowledge of personal computers and applicable computer software.


A candidate for this position should have knowledge of:

  • Traffic maintenance practices and procedures
  • Occupational safety precautions


Skill in:

  • Interpersonal and organizational skills


And the ability to:

  • Read and interpret technical' documents
  • Work effectively with the public, employees, contractors· arid department heads
  • Perform multiple duties simultaneously, despite frequent interruptions
