Description:

Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting new position within our Facilities Construction and Management Department. We are seeking a motivated, high energy, self-starter to serve in the role of Senior Trades Worker Indoor Environmental Quality and Life Safety.

This is a highly skilled and advanced technical level position that will be responsible for conducting investigations and inspections of reported incidents, including issues in both scopes of work. The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous attention to detail and have the ability to work under pressure as well as deadlines. Furthermore, the candidate must possess a positive attitude and be able to work in a team atmosphere and independently without much direction.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting investigations efficiently and accurately to determine causes of reported incidents.
  • Acts as a first responder in emergencies.
  • Operates I.E.Q equipment in response to reports of water intrusion, or indoor air quality issues.
  • Understands and implements best practices for the drying of all types of building materials to eliminate potential problems while keeping key operations in progress.
  • Operate fogging equipment for chlorine dioxide and other treatments for disinfecting and decontaminating the indoor environment and surfaces.
  • Operate specialized equipment for Environmental Health assessment and/or treatments as necessary.
  • Build containments and decontamination chambers when necessary to protect occupants from cross contamination.
  • Clean, disinfect, and HEPA vacuum all components that stay in place during remediation to allow safe working conditions.
  • Cross train with HVAC personnel and Life Safety personnel.
  • Perform facility-building surveys.
  • Provide solutions to include the ability to perform small mold remediation.
  • Installing and finishing drywall, prepping and painting of interior/exterior surfaces.
  • Maintaining log and documenting actions performed, retrieving and inputting work orders into the work request program, assisting/facilitation Indoor Air Quality and Life Safety training modules.
  • Assists and works under the direction of the Indoor Air Quality and Life Safety Supervisor and works closely with other Senior Tradesworkers/Technicians.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and two years of work experience in Indoor Environmental Quality, Disaster Clean-Up, Structural Drying Techniques, Water Restoration, General Construction, or any other closely related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Will be required to undergo a fingerprint based NCIC background check and must be able to obtain a security clearance from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and will be required to undergo a "fingerprint based" criminal background check and must be able to obtain security clearance from the State's Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.

Supplemental Information

  • Incumbent will be expected to respond immediately during/after a reported emergency/disaster unless excused by management.
  • Must be able to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Any Indoor Environmental Quality or related licenses, certifications and or certificates of training in various aspects of disaster response and/or FASA/BASA (Fire Alarm Systems Agent/Burglar Alarm Systems Agent) certifications are preferred but not required for consideration.
  • Knowledge of standards, methods, materials, and tools of the Indoor Air Quality field, as well as awareness of codes, rules, and regulations governing this position is preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper handling and clean-up of chemical and biological (Class III) contaminants is preferred.
  • Ability to operate highly specialized equipment for reading CO2, CO, RH, and temperature.
  • Ability to attend and retain training session information as required and to keep up on latest remediation and structural drying techniques/trends.
  • Ability to perform visual and mechanical inspections on all types of HVAC systems preferred.
  • Ability to lift a 60-pound pump and be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, to reach, stoop, squat and work in small spaces in extreme temperatures.
  • May be required to work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Prefer good computer and communication skills.
  • The workdays and hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 6:30 am – 5:00 pm.
