Job Description

The Test Engineer serves as a subject matter expert and performs analysis of documented user requirements. The Test Engineer directs or assists in the design of test plans in support of user requirements for moderately complex to complex software of IT systems. The Test Engineer will perform activities such as determining what testing strategy to implement; writing test plans, test case scenarios, identifying loads and metrics to be collected; ability to identify which protocol is best to use for building scripts and connecting to test environment interfaces; conducting various types of tests and collecting necessary metrics; writing test analysis documents highlighting key findings and recommendations; perform code reviews.

The Tester Engineer performs formal system testing activities for a particular project or subset of a larger project. The Test Engineer may evaluate, recommend, and implement automated test tools and strategies. The test engineer may also develop, maintain, and upgrade automated test scripts and architectures for application products. The Test Engineer may direct and/or participate in all phases of risk management assessments and software/hardware development with emphasis on analysis of user requirements, test design and test tools selection.

The Test Engineer should have the following skills:

  • Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments which are broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to apply a comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high impact assignments
  • Ability to plan and lead major technology assignments
  • Ability to evaluate test results and recommends major changes affecting short-term project growth and success
  • Functions as a technical expert across multiple project assignments
  • Ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Candidate must have strong communication skills

Job Requirements:

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Review functional requirements documentation: user stories, acceptance criteria, and understand functional requirements
  • Designs, develops and executes reusable test cases and procedures based on requirements relevant to test planning and creation (i.e. user stories/acceptance criteria)
  • Identifies, creates, and secures test data as necessary
  • Documents test results, properly tracks, and logs defects in TPRs and works with development team to resolve them
  • Collects, tracks, and reports test metrics
  • Updates/maintains detailed test plans
  • Ensures functional requirements are met through regression testing, SIT, and CAT activities
  • Develops and maintains the Contractor’s Test Management Plan (TMP) that defines the approach, processes, and procedures that integrates with and supports the Government’s Integrated Test and Evaluation (T&E) approach and Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP)
  • Maintains the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) with imbedded Testability Matrix that maps test methods and events, test scripts, scenarios, and test results to the applicable requirement, to include test-related artifact changes

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher and 5 years of related experience

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate working knowledge with several of the following concepts or technologies:

  • Manual Testing
  • HP ALM
  • UFT
  • IBM Rational Test WorkBench
  • XRAY Test Management (mentioned in HART TP)
  • JIRA (mentioned in HART TP)
  • Agile Environment/Methodologies
  • Biometrics knowledge
  • Languages: JAVA, Ruby, Python, database knowledge

Certification Requirements

  • Relevant commercial certifications desired

Clearance Requirements

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen, possess DHS Suitability background investigation or be eligible to qualify for DHS Entry of Duty background investigation followed by DHS Public Trust Clearance
