Job description

We are looking for a skilled individual that is excited to be a part of changing how the world views our most critical resource - Water. This individual will be responsible for creating, editing and assembling customized equipment manuals used in the water treatment and other process industries. The technical writer will complete assigned activities under the direction of the direct supervisor.


HERE'S WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Preparation of Installation, Operating and Maintenance (O&M) manuals for contracts using generic controlled standard documents as a template.

Customize standard installation instructions based on engineering drawings, parts list and customer specifications as required.

Verify accuracy of O&M instruction package with assigned engineers and client.

Maintain an effective record/log system for all document submissions.

Resolve technical challenges in the production of the manuals and necessary presentations.

Analyze all variables required to produce and maintain manuals in many different languages.

Production and Management of Safety signage.

Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Other duties may be assigned as required.


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS WILL INCLUDE:

Attention to Detail

Implement a systematic and practical approach to creating illustrations and documents that ensures a quality product with as few mistakes as possible.

Ability to proofread documents for possible errors within text fields as well as illustration labels and callouts, to produce accurate and high-quality documentation.

Use approved templates to maintain global consistency throughout all documentation.


Organization

Time Management - effectively manage and plan your own time to meet deadlines while delivering high quality product.

Use effective organizational practices within software packages.

Ability to organize steps for a process or instruction that is intuitive and easy to understand.

Ability to work as a team with technical writers, managers, engineers, technicians and other office personnel.


Communication/Writing

Confer with customers to discuss their needs and objectives in determining document content.

Conceptualize and develop ideas with customer input through completion of the final product.

Prepare and edit notes and instructions that are intuitive and easy to understand.


Graphic Design

Ability to visualize a mechanical process or procedure and effectively interpret the vision in graphical and written form.

Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy.

Design and produce professional looking graphics for publications, based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts.


Software and Other Skills

Proficiency (at least 5 years' experience) in the use and functionality of software used by the Technical Writing group, including:

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe InDesign

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Acrobat

SolidWorks Composer (3D modeling experience preferred, but not required)

Microsoft Office Software

Word

Excel

PowerPoint


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL POSSESS:

Associate degree in graphic design or technical writing preferred. Five plus years' experience with Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat. Experience with 3D modeling software preferred, but not required. Basic experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Technical illustration experience preferred.
