    REPORTS TO:
    Executive Director of Operations

    SUPERVISION:
    Engineers, grounds staff, warehouse staff, trades staff .

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, management or related field; direct job related experience may be substituted for education
    • 5 years job related experience
    • Certification in Asbestos Management or within 6 months
    • Certification in Indoor Air Quality or within 6 months
    Preferred
    • Chief Engineer License
    • Education or training in HVAC, facility management or related area
    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Under the direction of the Executive Director of Operations, the Supervisor of Facilities & Maintenance is responsible for the overall budget, management, operations and programs of facilities and maintenance. The Supervisor of Facilities & Maintenance will provide leadership and work with the district administration, building principals, and other school employees to ensure a well-maintained, safe, and secure environment for students and staff.

    SALARY: $75,000 - $95,000 depending on experience and qualifications

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • Directs activities of all building engineers, and district grounds, warehouse, and trades personnel
    • Plans and coordinates the activities for new construction and land development within the district
    • Oversees purchasing and maintains accurate records and documentation
    • Monitors and supervises the approved budget for facilities and maintenance
    • Determines staffing needs and requirements
    • Meets with district administrators to assess needs, projects and priorities within each building
    • Develops recommendations for capital outlay needs and requirements
    • Determines work priorities and plans
    • Initiates recruitment, screens, interviews, and recommends department personnel in partnership with Supervisor of Custodial Services
    • Initiates all personnel actions for facility personnel including evaluation, transfer, promotion, demotion, discipline and dismissal decisions of facilities staff
    • Oversees staff development activities and training sessions for facilities staff
    • Obtains necessary quotes and bids for purchasing equipment, materials, supplies and professional services in compliance with state statute, School District policy and ethical guidelines
    • Conducts staff meetings with department personnel
    • Maintains building security; secures buildings, locks and unlocks buildings as necessary and performs other security tasks
    • Formulates and establishes procedures and preventive maintenance schedules/programs
    • Inspects all school buildings and grounds on a regular basis to determine needs, maintenance requirements, and priorities
    • Oversees the preparation of playing fields and their care
    • Coordinates the plowing of snow and maintenance activities of all district property
    • Oversees the servicing, repair and replacement of grounds equipment
    • Monitors department logs and records of service, repair and maintenance
    • Monitors building energy usage
    • Visually inspects building mechanical equipment
    • Reviews, inspects, evaluates, and analyzes environments, equipment, process, projects, products, and activities, for health and safety risks to staff, students, and the public.
    • Investigates accidents and safety issues
    • Administers programs to prevent disease or injury, to minimize liability and loss exposure, and to comply with government regulations and internal standards.
    Project Management
    • Assists contractors, consultants, and architects in the design of buildings and facilities
    • Assists contractors, consultants, and architects in the diagnosis and remedies of problems during and after the construction of facilities
    • Plans and oversees the implementation of new construction, remodeling projects, renovations or major repairs
    • Monitors and serves as a liaison between the District and contractors, consultants, and architects
    Health and Safety
    • Ensure the safety, health and comfort of students, staff and public while on district grounds and facilities
    • Ensures compliance with OSHA and other local, state, and federal safety mandates
    • Participates on the district safety committee
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Awareness of and ability to apply federal, state and local regulations, laws and policies involving health and safety and workers compensation
    • Ability to develop, review, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures governing health and safety and workers compensation
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with a variety of audiences
    • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and facilitation of team effectiveness.
    • Ability to work a flexible yearly schedule with a flexible daily schedule, including possible evening work
    • Making oral presentations/training before groups
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse populations
    • Technology skills in up-to-date computer software, including Microsoft Office applications
    • Knowledge of risk management and loss control techniques, procedures, and programs
    • Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Education Health and Safety funding criteria and process
    • Ability to manage, analyze and interpret data
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and direct projects
    • Other duties as assigned
