Job Description
The Summer Conference Assistant (SCA) position at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe is viewed as a means of supporting summer conference operations and guests. During the course of the summer, SCAs will work directly with visiting summer conferences groups and summer orientations, providing customer service and acting as the point of reference for guests who need assistance or information.
The SCA will be expected to use their knowledge of the campus and the nearby venues and businesses to make the most suitable recommendations and respond to complaints and find an appropriate solution. SCAs will also perform a variety of tasks within the broad categories listed below to support conferences, orientations and guests.
These are by no means all of the responsibilities of a SCA. Other tasks may be assigned that are not included in this description. The SCA position is a paraprofessional position within the Student Services Division and it is expected that each individual will support the Diversity Statement.
This position is for Summer Conference Assistants at the Lake Tahoe Campus.
Responsibilities
Conference Operations:
  • The SCA position will a primary role and conference duties will take precedence over other positions across the department.
  • SCAs work directly with visiting summer conferences groups and summer orientations.
  • These staff members will assist in preparing residence hall accommodations for conference arrivals & departures with typical duties including creating and delivering linen packets, key preparation, on-duty rotation, damage reports, pulling linens and other duties needed to carry out conference operations.
  • Tasks may require physical motor skills including but not limited to moving furniture and room preparation and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Desk Operations, Safety/Security, and Residential Duties:
  • SCAs will assist with providing security for all guests and residents.
  • SCAs are to be familiar with and enforce residence hall policies, and report individuals that violate these policies.
  • SCAs must also live in accordance with residence hall policies. SCAs need to respond to and assist with crises such as fire alarms, power outages, safety and maintenance concerns, and other emergencies.
  • SCAs may also need to direct conference guests to a Safety area or away from danger, depending on the situation.
  • SCAs are responsible for checking guests into and out of their room, posting signs, filling out incident reports to document incidents/violations and roster verification checks.
Required Qualifications
  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno.
  • This position also requires desk assistant hours after primary housing hours are fulfilled.
  • Summer staff must be available to reside on-site with all conferences that reserve summer housing on campus, while serving different roles as required by conference and orientation groups, summer school students and changing departmental needs.
  • The SCA is also required to attend staff meetings.
