Must allow videotaping of encounters with students that will be viewed for educational purposes.
All encounters with students including their progress must be kept in strict confidence.
Must remain in good standing academically with CUSM.

Position Purpose
Student Team leaders are Spanish tutors who will work with students in a small group setting or one-on-one. The Student Team Leader will provide feedback and instruction to students as they build their Spanish vocabularies. The tutor will focus on enhancing the student’s ability to treat Spanish-speaking patients through mastery of medical terminology.

Essential Functions
  • Tutor students in a small group setting
  • Produce in-class and out-of-class content and assignments
  • Work with clinical faculty to create OSCE material and manage the OSCE day
  • Monitor student progress and providing feedback
  • Maximum work allowance per 2-week pay period: 20 hours
  • Speak, read, and write clearly in English and Spanish
  • Native Spanish-speaker and/or at least 3 years of combined high school and college Spanish (min. 3.0 GPA) and ability to display fluency
  • Internet access for pertinent communication and check emails regularly
  • Ability to consistently work weekly classroom sessions
  • Must contribute to producing learning materials for the week
  • Basic computer skills
  • Provide own transportation and be reliable and on time

Skill s and Abilities
  • Must have strong communication skills while interacting with fellow tutors and students
  • Must have strong reading and writing skills to absorb and use the detailed case training and exam procedural information
  • Must be able to explain complex language structure normalities and abnormalities
  • Must be able to provide constructive feedback to students
  • Must be able to role play a patient-physician interaction from both perspectives OR act as an interpreter for patient-physician interaction
  • Must be flexible in their ability to teach to each student’s skill level
  • Must be able to follow rules and procedures for exams
  • Must be objective when interacting with and rating examinees of all backgrounds
  • Must have excellent recall in order to rate the examinees
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills when interacting with other employees

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS degree or higher
  • Background in healthcare or the biological sciences

Working Environment
  • Classroom setting on a weekly basis
  • Clinical Skills rooms for role plays
  • Community outings for cultural enrichment (approximately 2 times a semester)
  • Must keep work area clean, including but not limited to “turning over” the classroom: returning all rooms to their appearance prior to the Spanish class
