Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant in the department of Medicine – Gastroenterology and Hepatology within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under general guidance and direction, the Student Assistant provides laboratory technical support duties involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques. The candidate will perform routine laboratory functions to support scientific experiments and investigations such as setting up, testing, adjusting, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and apparatus such as titrators, pH meters and centrifuges. In addition, the candidate will be recording, analyzing and writing reports, reviews and summaries on the findings of experiments and trials. The candidate will also be responsible for collecting and preparing samples, solutions, cultures and specimens and ensuring safe disposal of waste-Following strict safety regulations. Candidate should stay current with relevant scientific developments that can improve the efficiency of lab operations.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Keep neat, thorough, and up-to-date records of procedures and experiments using paper and/or electronic platforms.
  • Work collaboratively and independently with lab mates, as well as other staff and researchers within and potentially external to Rutgers.
  • Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled group research meetings and discussions.
  • Complete paperwork and organize physical and electronic files and databases.
  • Write and/or manage recruitment posts for human subjects.
  • Enter data and organize biospecimens.
  • Format, verify, or generate research data.
  • Assist with obtaining medical literature and with scientific reporting.
