Staff Investigator

Office of Disciplinary Counsel- Baton Rouge, LA

Seeking Staff Investigator to perform investigative duties and support, thus enabling counsel to effectively dismiss or prosecute allegations of attorney misconduct according to the rules established by the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Applicant must be highly organized, detail oriented, present with professionalism, punctuality, and have the ability to work in a team environment in a timely fashion.

Position Summary:

Staff Investigator will be under direct supervision of deputy counsel and will investigate complaints of attorney misconduct made by the general public, courts and other parties, determines what evidence is needed to support the allegations, collects evidence, and interviews witnesses and other relevant parties.

Essential Functions:

▪ Assists in locating and interviewing the complaining witnesses, respondents and other relevant parties, explaining the functions and limitations of the discipline system.

▪ Assists in gathering evidence, reviewing and ordering court files, obtaining insurance files and other relevant documentation pertaining to the underling legal matters involved in the complaint.

▪ Serves process and pleadings for all attorney disciplinary matters in the state of Louisiana.

▪ Assists in interacting and cooperating with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

▪ Assists counsel by monitoring the criminal prosecution of attorneys in city, state and federal courts, as well as gathering necessary documentation from those cases.

▪ Provide support for trials by testifying to investigative findings, coordinating witnesses, and preparing/providing electronic evidence when needed.

▪ Participate in quarterly case management review to ensure timely processing of investigations.

▪ Maintain all office policies and procedures and confidentiality guidelines.

Minimum Requirements and Skills:

▪ Computer information systems including general personal computer applications as well as use of specific internal computerized databases.

▪ Techniques and methods of investigations

▪ Review and analyze complex written documents.

▪ Utilize various sources of information and methods used in locating persons.

▪ Navigate both paper and computerized court records, investigative databases, and other information systems in order to locate evidence pertaining to disciplinary investigations.

▪ Deal effectively with persons of diverse behavior, temperament, and educational backgrounds to gain insight to their motivations and credibility.

▪ Present material and investigative findings in oral and/or written form.

Required Education:

▪ Bachelor degree, or equivalent work experience in a field that develops the skills required for the functions and responsibilities of the position.

▪ Minimum 2 years experience in a position requiring extensive research and analysis, preferably in an investigative environment.

▪ Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license.

▪ Must have proof of automobile insurance coverage.

Other Requirements:

▪ Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

▪ Ability to occasionally work after hours and on weekends with no notice.

▪ Ability to occasionally travel across the state without advanced notice.

▪ Ability to occasionally travel overnight via air or automobile.

▪ Ability to secure and maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance, and acceptable means of transportation.

▪ May be subject to successful completion of a background check
