TRC is seeking a highly motivated entry-level Environmental Engineer to join our growing team of engineers and geoscientists in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual looking for career growth and will provide support for a wide variety of projects primarily for industrial, utility, renewable energy, and solid waste management clients. As an Environmental Engineer, you will apply your knowledge and develop new skills while working on technically challenging projects. Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a broad variety of environmental engineering activities including soil, soil gas, and groundwater sampling and remediation; feasibility study development and analysis; remedy design; remedy implementation; and systems operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Management of subcontractors.
  • Oversight and documentation of construction and facility demolition activities.
  • Data interpretation and presentation including tables and figures to illustrate collected data.
  • Site characterization and technical evaluations regarding sources, transport, and fate of groundwater and soil contamination in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support environmental investigation, compliance and remediation projects in the field and office.
  • Permit development and support.
  • Prepare work plans and proposals including development of level-of-effort estimates.
  • Perform calculations and engineering evaluations, develop remediation alternatives evaluations and bid specifications.
  • Prepare technical reports, conceptual designs, and detailed remediation and wastewater treatment designs.
  • Perform other environmental engineering tasks such as the development and implementation of SPCC, SWPP, and Response Activity Plans.
  • Support management of tasks to ensure internal and external expectations are met for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Interact with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree in environmental or chemical engineering. Civil engineering-degreed candidates with environmental focus, coursework, and/or experience in hydrogeology and chemical fate and transport will also be considered.
  • For recent college graduates, an internship or cooperative education experience with an environmental consulting firm is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple deadlines for multiple Project Managers.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) is mandatory. Experience with other civil and environmental engineering software applications (AutoCAD, MathCAD, WaterCAD, ARCView GIS, etc.) is preferred but not required.
  • Must possess solid technical and problem-solving skills and must be willing to accept short- and long-term field assignments, with some overnight travel expected.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre—employment drug screen, background check, physical and motor vehicle records check.
  • Candidates possessing a 40-hour HAZWOPER health and safety training certificate or an up-to-date 8-hr annual refresher course certification are preferred. Candidates without current certification or without prior 40-hr training will be required to attend (and receive certification) immediately upon hire.
