Your Role at Cabot:
Work under minimal supervision and conduct a wide variety of tests, including non-routine or special testing, more complex samples and run testing equipment. Analyzes in-process and final product samples to ensure in accordance with Cabot quality standards. Provides training and orientation to less-experienced technician.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Conducts various tests and analyses of product or feedstock samples to determine quality and reliability during manufacturing or product development. Prepares sample for non-routine and more complex testing.
- Uses various state of the art equipment and apparatus, required for mixing, milling and curing materials, such as polymers, as well as and molding equipment to prepare samples. Operates and run processing/milling, abrasion/polishing, and other machines, as required.
- Performs a variety of tests using laboratory devices such as rheometer to test viscosity, conducts physical tests for stress, tearing, hardness and other properties, as directed.
- Provides training and work orientation to less-experienced operators as needed. Acts as resource to others.
- May assemble and install process equipment used for testing purposes.
- May work with others to develop test methods for new or existing pieces of equipment.
- Keeps notes, enters data to database. Generate organize data, provide summary in interpretation to identify issues and trends as necessary.
- Maintains work area in compliances with safety rules and regulations. Participate in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
- Calibrates testing equipment and performs routine maintenance on a variety of equipment.
- Broad knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and protocols.
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity in order to operate and perform basic service to laboratory equipment.
- Ability to identify out of range results and note unusual pattern.
- Quality and precision-oriented Displays great care in observing and following testing protocols.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly. Ability to provide training to others.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets
- Ability to classify and organize data in a logical and orderly way as well as plan work to ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Organizational skills in order to handle simultaneous work and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative attitude and interpersonal skills, willing to share information and resources with peers.
- Secondary education (High school). technical/vocational training a plus.
- 5 years of related experience depending on level of education and knowledge.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Science preferred
