What You Will Do

eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.

XIT division is seeking an energetic, technical, and customer-focused Team Leader for the XIT Unclassified Systems Services (XIT-USS) group. XIT-USS consists of approximately 65 professionals, technicians, and students. The successful candidate will manage a team of 16 technical employees performing administrative support for Windows, Mac, and Linux desktops, servers and VDI environment for customers.

Solutions Architect 3 ($109,100 - $182,000)
As an important part of the XIT leadership team, the successful candidate's primary responsibilities include first level team lead duties as defined for a Solutions Architect 3 position. In addition to leading and managing the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Leadership
  • Assisting in all aspects of employee performance management for the members of the team
  • Selecting, retaining, and developing high-quality staff
  • Negotiating and managing the terms of Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Metric reporting
  • Mentoring direct reports
  • Advancing professionalism, supporting technical growth, and providing exceptional customer service

Technical Competence
  • Designing, implementing, and ongoing enhancement of a complex unclassified and VDI computing environments
  • Utilizing service and tools to optimize standard configurations and security
  • Implementing Cyber Security measures as required by the DOE/NNSA, LASO, OCIO
  • Supporting the management and oversight of major efforts such as infrastructure upgrades, new hardware, and software implementation
  • Implementing and supporting XIT best practices, services, and tools to promote standard desktop configurations and security
  • Assisting in the development and architecture of LANL's continued expansion in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) initiatives
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of improved lifecycle management for institutional and programmatic unclassified computing systems

Institutional Acumen
  • Enhancing relationships with IT Service providers and our customers
  • I&T collaborating support functions with the Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE), Software Applications Engineering (SAE), and Service Innovation (SI) Divisions of ALDBUS
  • Working directly with the LANL OCIO and Los Alamos Field Office to provide a secure, efficient, and stable unclassified computing environment for LANL
  • Managing of budget and deliverables by serving as a steward of the team's finances, personnel, and property resources

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience of desktop and server computing support, computing infrastructure design and implementation, network integration, and an understanding of Laboratory computing and network operations.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in system configuration management methodologies, and Storage Area Network (SAN) environments.
  • Technical leadership experience with an emphasis on planning, employee development, performance management, team building, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management and cyber security personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience with collaboration across organizational boundaries, and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive and effective manner.

Education/Experience: Position requires a minimum of 10-15 years of related experience. At this level, post-graduate coursework may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance
  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, or COBIT
  • Knowledge of the Information Architecture process and implementation of standards
  • Knowledge of project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables
  • Experience in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making
  • Advanced vendor certification (RHCSA, RHCE, VMware, Storage)

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
