Sorenson Communications LLC. (and subsidiary CaptionCall) offer Video Relay Service (VRS) through American Sign Language (ASL), allowing Deaf and hearing people to communicate in their preferred language. We also provide onsite and remote interpreting services between English and various other world languages. CaptionCall (a division of Sorenson) offers Internet protocol captioning communication service (IP CTS) using advanced technology and a captioning agent to quickly provide written captions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and team leadership in the design, implementation, and testing of high-performance, high-quality captioning applications using React and SignalR
  • Function as the Front-End team’s primary owner of responsiveness and accessibility
  • Provide attainable goals and time frames for the team
  • Proactively communicate progress on projects
  • Use of agile and rapid application development processes to speed engineering efforts
  • Review and evaluate code written by peers and provide effective feedback
  • Collaborate with and work proactively with UX/UI Designers, Back End developers, Product Management, and QA teams to deliver solutions
  • Implement standards-based communication protocols and related technologies including web sockets, JSON, HTTP, and REST
  • Drive standards-based architectures and supporting services
  • Follow engineering best practices in a team environment to develop high-quality products including writing automated unit and integration tests

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities Required

  • Strong knowledge of and experience developing web applications (React, JavaScript, TypeScript, etc.)
  • Experience as technical lead in developing and delivering React applications
  • Experience GitHub source control (or similar)
  • Experience deploying applications to AWS using deployment pipelines
  • Strong understanding of software algorithms, structures, and design patterns
  • Must have the ability to effectively and articulately communicate within the team and across groups, both in writing and verbally
  • Able to make reasonable independent judgement calls
  • Able to communicate in English and/or American Sign Language
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with diverse groups across the business

Experience/Education/Certifications

  • BS degree in CS or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing and supporting high-quality, high-availability, scalable applications
  • Bonus experience:
    • Experience with calling protocols including SignalR, SIP, and WebRTC
    • Experience with video, voice, or text communication applications

  • Physical Demands
    • Able to sit/stand for a long period of time in an office environment
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components
    • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
  • Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across company departments
