Our Small Commercial Lines department is currently seeking a Sr Business Analyst on the Performance Innovation Team. This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement.

This is a full time, exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for business management of a subset of digital and technology capabilities in the Core Commercial lines business vertical including design, optimization, requirements, testing, change integration, and capability performance monitoring. Operates at the intersection of business, underwriting, operations, and technology to deliver experiences that simplify how agents, and customers operate through digital channels and platforms. Support vision, strategy, and performance objectives for the assigned capabilities. This role facilitates vision and design requirements with the business, distribution, and operations leaders for digital API capabilities, while partnering with Hanover Technology and vendors to execute to business goals.

Leveraging Agile methodology this role develops scope and defines backlog items (epics/features/user stories) that guide the Agile software development team; and prioritizes delivery of features and makes decision on sequencing and trade-offs to stay on track towards business deliverable commitments. The role has responsibility for representing the business, agent, and customer perspective for their capabilities and projects, as well as ensuring successful change management, business integration, and post-deployment monitoring.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Be responsible for articulating and translating the overall business vision into strategy and tactics for a particular digital experience, product, or project.
  • Meet with business leads in collaboration with Hanover Technology to help develop and guide the product vision and technology roadmap, to outline details of how the products and systems operate, and to make strategic and tactical recommendations for the improvement of products to maximize value to the customer (internal & external).
  • Interpret the product vision to recommend how and what to build (and what not to build) to the business team.
  • Communicate the strategies and vision effectively to key stakeholders and team members.
  • Work with business subject matter experts to outline the scope of requirements necessary to complete a project. Develops and maintains an appropriately prioritized backlog of user stories for implementation.
  • Partner with a cross functional team to identify the scope of a larger product initiative/project and develop a plan to successful implementation including business readiness. Participate in implementation efforts on the business side working closely with the business, peers, vendors, and IT to ensure quality, timely product launches including testing of the features delivered.
  • Work with automation solutions, operations, field sales and underwriting and other subject matter experts to analyze key competitors’ system functionality and system ease of doing business. This includes analysis with Hanover’s current system offering and making recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Assist with research and analysis of new product ideas and analyze results of current product offerings.
  • Assist in creation of business requirements in collaboration with IT, appropriate to the technology process, to be used for system development and changes. This may include traditional requirements documentation or story writing associated with the Agile process. Depending upon the project, the Product Owner may delegate these tasks to other subject matter experts and coordinate and manage their work. On other projects, the Product Owner may develop the requirements.
  • Assist in efforts to forecast the cost and timeline required to implement the project.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Generally, five years of related work experience in the insurance industry or equivalent
  • Experience in managing change initiatives
  • Innovation mind-set: Motivated to improve organizational performance through the introduction of new ideas methods processes products services and so forth. Often develops new ways of looking at a situation.
  • Self-starter mentality; proactively takes on new tasks/responsibilities; results-oriented
  • Strong problem-solver; ability to look at the holistic situation, see new options and connect the dots where appropriate
  • Exhibits strong written and communication skills; ability to effectively influence without full authority at various levels of the organization across the business units and shared services teams
  • Experience in or ability to learn the Agile software development practices
  • Commercial Lines underwriting experience and product knowledge a plus
  • Project management experience in moderately complex initiatives with varying scope
  • Strong attention to detail; experience with process (operations) underwriting, and data analysis
