Southside Virginia Community College is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Simulation Technologist to be located at the Estes Center in Chase City, VA. The Simulation Technologist, reporting to the Simulation Lab Director, will ensure our simulation lab is fully functional for student clinical training and ensure the system is functional with the most current, up-to-date software for the simulation lab equipment.
Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Operating and maintaining simulation technology equipment as well as various departmental technical and healthcare resources used to conduct training for healthcare students and professionals
- Supporting Southside Virginia Community College initiatives to promote healthcare careers and services in underserved communities
- Serves as the healthcare simulation operator for pre-programmed patient scenarios
- Oversees information technology systems, connectivity, functionality, and operations throughout the lab in conjunction with SVCC IT staff
- Assists with daily operations and upkeep of Simulation lab learning and instructional spaces
- Performs and oversees processes required to secure and preserve lab assets including ensuring all equipment and operating systems are operational and ready for use
- Develops and facilitates equipment/supplies training for internal and external clients/users
- Assists with equipment budgeting, replacements, and upgrades
- Collaborates with partners and other stakeholders to accomplish identified simulation training experiences and outcomes
- Maintains complex databases and inventories of training assets, resources, and sessions
- Other duties as assigned
SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the state’s capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree, course work or certification in Information Technology
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute educational requirements
- High level of computer literacy and IT knowledge including proficiency with operating and troubleshooting computer hardware and various operating systems
- Ability to configure, operate, and maintain networked computer system and audiovisual equipment
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment failures in a timely manner
- Demonstrated communication skills to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability to independently and safely lift simulation and training equipment (25 lbs. or less) and move manikins with the assistance of others (over 25 pounds)
- Proficiency in developing and delivering training for technical equipment and coaching audiences with varied levels of technical expertise
- Must be willing to complete job-related training as applicable
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Teams
- Ability to work independently and maintain productivity
- Excellent proven customer service skills
- Must be available to work flexible schedule as needed including evenings and Saturdays
- Previous work experience managing, operating, and/or supporting computer hardware and software applications in a networked computing environment
- Experience in healthcare education and/or simulation training
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Certification
- Degree course work or certification in Information Technology, Information Systems Technology, or health related field; An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute educational requirements
- Considerable experience with Information Technology Support and/or CompTIA A+ Certification
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology and pathophysiology of common health diagnoses
- Skilled at delivering healthcare simulations to various levels of learners
