TEMPORARY RELOCATION TO BETHEL, ALASKA REQUIRED

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Valid Alaska Teacher's Certificate with Special Education endorsement required. Hearing Impaired endorsement preferred.
3. At least three (3) years demonstrated successful experience as a Special Education and/or Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher.
4. American Sign language skills required.
5. Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan Environment.
6. Willingness to travel to remote locations.
7. Ability to carry out successfully the duties described below.

1. Participates as an integral member of the Special Education Eligibility and IEP Teams.
2. Assists in the maintenance of the confidential central office file system on deaf/hard of hearing students.
3. Acts as a “case manager” for all referrals for Special Education Deaf/Hard of Hearing program.
4. Participate in notification, assessment, writing, and implementing the IEP’s for students participating in the services.
5. Provide technical assistance for deaf/hard of hearing students.
6. Serve as a resource person to special education teachers, teacher aides, regular education teacher, administrators, parents, and deaf/hard of hearing student in the school and community.
7. Serve as a child advocate for deaf/hard of hearing students.
8. Provide for evaluation and educational programming of deaf/hard of hearing students in coordination with Alaska State School for the Deaf, YKHC, and other agencies.
9. Assists in the development and implementation of in-service training for teachers, teacher aides, administrators and parents at designated sites.
10. Assist in developmental screening of preschool children.
11. Make sure hearing equipment at all sites is functional (i.e.: hearing aides, FM systems) and document functionality.
12. Performs hearing screenings for kindergarten round-up.
13. Contacts parents and appropriate agencies when hearing loss is suspected after screening.
14. Supervises deaf/hard of hearing program in collaboration with site administrator and provides required documentation thereof.
15. Adhere to the ethical standards of the profession and seek to develop professionally.
16. Adhere to established rules, regulations and laws, and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals and objectives of LKSD.
17. Participate in development of LKSD policies for service of deaf/hard of hearing individuals.
18. Participate in development of LKSD special education staff policies and procedures.
19. Assist families in understanding their child’s rights under IDEA.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year
