The Shop Manager will oversee a team of heavy equipment (diesel mechanics) performing the duties of a heavy and light equipment mechanic, which includes performing diagnostics, repair and preventive maintenance on big trucks as needed in the most effective and cost-efficient way possible to avoid down time and to keep our Field Operations Teams fully operational.

As the Shop Manager, you will manage the servicing of company equipment in a timely and effective manner. This is a skilled mechanic management role; it is a supervisory AND a working mechanic role.

Job Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Interface daily with technicians/mechanics regarding progress of jobs
  • Confirm expectations for the day/week with Director of Maintenance
  • Assist in holding technicians/mechanics accountable for meeting promises, maintaining/closing work orders, completion of necessary paperwork and following procedures
  • Maintain accurate and efficient records i.e.: invoicing, creating RO’s etc.
  • Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources or defects.
  • Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.
  • Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions.
  • Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.
  • Examine objects, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.

Experience:

  • 5 to 8 years of experience with the diagnosis and repair of diesel engines, related electrical systems, and emissions control.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience as a foreman or manager of a diesel shop
  • Experience using testing equipment like diagnostics software, battery tester, leak-down, and compression tester.

Knowledge:

  • Ability to assemble and perform maintenance functions on equipment
  • Ability to get members of a group to work together to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to assess the value, importance, or quality of things or people.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations are desired
  • Ability to work flexible schedules occasionally

Skills:

  • Excellent mechanical skills
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent oral communication and written skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills

Other:

  • Must maintain and enforce a high level of shop area cleanliness and observe/enforce all safety rules.
  • DOT Class A License preferred
