OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Community Impact is responsible for leading, developing and advancing United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s (UWSA) community impact strategic framework and investment strategies in four impact areas - Ready Children, Successful Students, Strong Individuals and Families and Safety Net Services. The position leads a team of 10 to 12 people, responsible for providing strategic guidance to each impact council focused on achieving results.

The SVP, Community Impact will provide key leadership as a member of the Senior Leadership Team in the ongoing development and implementation of UWSA’s organizational strategies to integrate the grants and public policy work into a highly effective community impact response to critical community needs. This position works collaboratively with a cross-departmental team to ensure an integrated approach to community impact efforts and serves as lead staff for the Community Impact Committee.

Key responsibilities include managing UWSA’s impact agenda, monitoring community investment and departmental budgets, developing and sustaining relationships with partner agencies and diverse groups of community stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading collaborative, cross-sector nonprofit partnerships and be familiar with collective impact and Results-Based Accountability™. This person will offer high cultural awareness, possessing the ability to work and communicate professionally with a broad spectrum of the community. They will be adaptable, initiative-taking and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Direct and manage all community investment strategies related to meeting organizational goals and develop plans, policies and procedures to carry out Community Impact initiatives effectively.
• Provide strategic leadership and support to volunteers and staff to develop and implement UWSA's community impact agenda to ensure investment of donors' funds leads to the achievement of stated results for each impact council. Use data to develop effective investment strategies, identify effective investment partners, and evaluate and measure impact to solve critical issues.
• Lead, guide and support the Impact Council team, which serves as the backbone for UWSA’s four impact councils. The team is responsible for directing, planning and executing strategies that engage, empower and support the infrastructure of each impact council. They oversee all facets of program implementation and evaluation, including priority setting, planning, budgeting, data analysis, fiscal and program performance assessment and management of monthly council meetings.
• Serve as lead staff for the Community Impact Committee that provides strategic direction for UWSA's efforts to measurably improve community conditions in the health and human services sector. Support the committee chair by setting the annual agenda, establishing meeting dates and coordinating with UWSA's senior leadership team to ensure the committee's alignment with other committees and the Board of Directors.
• Prepare Community Impact report content for the Community Impact Committee, Board of Directors, Advisory Council and other stakeholders.
• Manage budgets for community investments and department operations.
• Lead cross-departmental strategic planning efforts to prepare for UWSA's next multi-year investment cycle, working collaboratively with grants, data and marketing departments.
• Establish and build relationships with nonprofit agency leaders, particularly UWSA impact partners, and manage communications related to our partnership with them.
• Develop and nurture relationships with community leaders and serve as a thought leader in partnerships that align with and strengthen UWSA priorities.
• In partnership with Senior Leadership Team, develop investment products to generate resources necessary to achieve impact.
• Manage issue- or geographic-specific application and investment processes as needed. Examples include event/disaster-related initiatives and annual allocations for surrounding counties.
• Contribute to the UWSA's overall success by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree – required / master’s degree – preferred in Business, Health & Human Services, Public Policy or other related field of study.
• Eight to ten years of experience in the human services field.
• Extensive knowledge of community issues.
• Strategic leadership of collective impact efforts.
• Strong relationships in the nonprofit, public and private sectors.
• Staff and volunteer management.
• Budget and fiscal management.

• Normal nonprofit office environment with little exposure to dust, noise and extreme temperatures.
• Extended work on personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
• Reliable transportation required with the ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events locally, routinely and around the state and nationally, occasionally.
• Monday-Friday, 8:15 am to 4:45 pm work week with occasional evening and weekend hours.
