Position Overview:

As a Splunk Engineer you will be responsible as part of a team of highly skilled professionals for designing, developing, testing and integration of a “from the ground up” new Microsoft Azure on-premises Enterprise IT datacenter for supporting NAVSEA 03C. This is an outstanding opportunity to design and build a new greenfield Azure solution. This position offers great opportunities for technical experience and growth. The position is REMOTE , but occasionally requires in person tasking. The selected candidate should be within commuting distance of any of the below locations when needing to be at an associate facility:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide design, development, test and integration of large distributed clustered Splunk environment consisting of search heads, indexers, deployers, deployment servers, heavy/universal forwarders, spanning security and performance
  • Recognize and onboard new data sources into Splunk, analyzing the data for anomalies and trends, and building dashboards, searches, reports, etc. highlighting the key trends of the data
  • Provide industry standard expertise in the deployment, configuration, and operations of Splunk Enterprise and Splunk ES
  • Performs system modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Review completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and make recommendations to management
  • A passion for analytics, for helping users and share the stories and meaning in their data
  • Experience in translating business requirements into concrete Splunk and data analytics solutions
  • Responsible for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closure of the work assigned of the project
  • Responsible for gathering metrics for reporting for upward leadership and lateral visibility for our end-users
  • Manage and drive the technical expectations and commitments of internal and external constituents to ensure the timely execution and completion of the data onboarding activities
  • Other Splunk Engineer duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or other related scientific or technical discipline is preferred. Work experience or industry certifications demonstrating technical proficiency may be substituted for education requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Minimum DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification required (CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC, Sec+, CND, SSCP)
  • DoD 8570 Computing Environment certification within 6 months of hire. Preferably Splunk Cloud Certified Architect or Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin/Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin
  • Knowledge of Splunk clustering
  • Ability to script in one more of the following computer languages Python, Bash, Visual Basic or Powershell

Demonstrated technical expertise with the following :

  • Splunk or other similar SIEM technology
  • Unix/Linux OS
  • SQL or Oracle Databases
  • SIEM Content Development
  • Python, SALT and Ansible development skills preferred

Technical writing experience:

  • Installation/Deployment Procedures
  • Document Requirements
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to collaborate with team members in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks to meet project deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth technical understanding with load balancers
  • Experience automating Splunk Deployments and orchestration within a cloud environment
  • Linux experience
  • Experience writing MS SQL
  • Experience with code repositories
  • GitHub Enterprise experience
  • CI/CD pipeline experience

Clearance Requirement:

  • Active Secret clearance with potential for Top Secret, SCI.

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.

The projected compensation range for this position is $119,000-$180,000. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
