JOB OVERVIEW:

LISC is seeking a qualified candidate for a Senior Program Officer for Research and Impact. This position will be part of LISC’s Community Research and Impact team (CRI) – a kind of R&D shop at LISC National. CRI’s charge within LISC is to rigorously understand innovative programs and policies that can substantially address racial, gender, and economic inequities. CRI also promotes the strong and equitable implementation of these kinds of transformative initiatives. To that end, the candidate will conduct original, applied, quantitative and qualitative research, and develop and implement strategy to advance impact in collaboration with local offices, national programs, and external partners. Another major role is to support varied internal data and research requests from LISC programs and local offices, and to provide requested technical assistance on program design. As LISC is a comprehensive community development agency, topics will span the range of the programs we cover, but we anticipate that there will be a focus on transformative programmatic and policy efforts related to housing justice and varied forms of community ownership. The position will be based in our New York City headquarters.

Responsibilities:

The following are an indication of the position’s core responsibilities; these are intended to illustrate the scope of responsibilities and are not exclusive of other duties that may be required.

  • Actively disseminate this research in ways that advance programmatic and policy changes, through webinars, conferences, meetings and other venues
  • Maintain and advance continuous connections with policy research, advocacy, and policy audiences
  • Participate in fundraising for research; conduct funded research
  • Support ongoing internal research requests, such as literature reviews or policy scans, data or metrics development, scans of community data, among other topics.

Community Impact

  • Support strong, equitable program design on impactful new initiatives by collaborating with LISC subject-experts, local offices, and external partners to develop core approaches, implementation strategies to overcome barriers/challenges, protocols for activities or service delivery, etc.
  • Identify and advance opportunities for policy and systems change, based on the individual’s and LISC’s programmatic and research expertise
  • Participate in fundraising for new programmatic and policy initiatives; take part in implementing or manage these initiatives
  • Conduct trainings and develop resources for internal staff on program design
  • Facilitate and support internal working groups on different programmatic topics
  • Disseminate new strategies and practices in ways that benefit the LISC network of community partners

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an applied field, or in a social science discipline with significant applied work
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the general field
  • Significant experience conducting research and providing technical assistance in ways that are deeply collaborative and genuinely community-driven
  • Experience working at or with community-based organizations essential
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, for diverse audiences including practitioners and policymakers, but also involving popular education for residents
  • High motivated and collaborative; ability to manage multiple projects and maintain strong collaborative relationships across internal and external teams.

Compensation
