This is a permanent, part-time position with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) located in Prineville.

What you will do:
  • Greets and works with the public in a pleasant, cordial and efficient manner, projecting a professional, service-oriented image. Answers main telephone lines and handles over-the counter requests from the public which may include answers to hunting and fishing regulations, and miscellaneous department programs. Tactfully, efficiently and cordially takes care of problems and answers customer questions. Uses independent judgment in responding to questions of laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Operates Point of Sale electronic licensing system. Issues Pioneer and Disabled Veteran licenses, issues duplicate and exchange tags, issues tag exceptions for customers who missed tag sale deadlines, issues Landowner Preference damage tags, and issues duplicate hunter education cards. Keeps current on eligibility requirements for each type of license/tag. Provide Oregon State Police with hunter/angler information for enforcement purposes
  • Prepares purchase orders and transmittals for payment of services and supplies received. Monitors purchasing compliance with state[1]awarded contracts. Occasionally uses a state issued SPOTS purchasing card for work related purposes. Maintains computer tracking of various district cost centers. Aides district personnel with budget preparation and reporting.
  • Receives incoming telephone or 2-way radio calls and directs them to appropriate staff members or records messages. Types correspondence, reports and miscellaneous materials using a computer. Receives and distributes incoming mail, and processes outgoing mail. Sends/receives faxes and maintains the machine. Regularly uses a photocopy machine. Is responsible for maintaining adequate postage. Inventories office supplies and orders replacement supplies.

Working Conditions
  • May sometimes be confronted by irate public, or be required to receive and handle dead or injured animals when alone in the office. Must be able to prioritize and maintain work schedule when alone in an office setting where multiple interruptions frequently occur, such as responding to phones, radio, and walk-ins at the same time.
  • The duties of this position may include the use of a SPOTS Card for work-related purchases as a benefit to the agency. Prior to being issued a SPOTS Card the employee must meet all necessary requirements in accordance with ODFW Policy ASD_250_03-SPOTS, including completing ODFW SPOTS Card training. Continued eligibility to possess and use a SPOTS Card requires that the holder remain in full compliance with ODFW Policy ASD_250_03—SPOTS. The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background check with fingerprinting and will be subject to annual checks during employment.
Criminal Records/DMV Check
Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Driving is required for all positions. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified or uncertified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. Adverse background and/or driving information may disqualify you from further consideration.

NOTE: Within three days of hire, applicants will be required to complete the U.S. Department Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODFW participates in E-Verify. ODFW is not able to support VISA sponsorships.
We are seeking applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have the following skills and experience:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
  • An associate degree in any field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requested Skills:
  • Using a computer to enter, update and retrieve information
  • Use various software and programs including Excel, Word, Access, Outlook
  • Handling multiple tasks, assignments and duties
  • Filing and following records retention guidelines
  • Customer service (via phone, email, and in person)
  • Compiling, sorting, reviewing and validating documents for accuracy and completeness.
