Job Summary:

This role is in the Reedy Creek Energy Services (RCES) organization. RCES Cast Members work on behalf of the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) designing, constructing, operating and maintaining RCID-owned utility systems across the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Senior Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for the on-budget and on-time direction and implementation of the mechanical portfolio of capital improvement projects, ensuring consistency with department strategy, commitments, and goals. This role leads and directs the progress on each project including engineering, contracting, construction, and closeout, maintaining leadership responsibility throughout the project life cycle. The Senior Mechanical Project Manager acts as Reedy Creek Energy Services (RCES’s) point of contact with customers and stakeholders for all project related issues and ensures that the team complies with the overall RCES and contractor safety program. Typical projects managed by this role include utility scale work in the following systems: natural gas, potable water, wastewater, reclaimed water, compressed air, chilled water, hot water, and energy production.

The position will be a direct report to the Manager, RCES Engineering & Programs.

Responsibilities/You Will

  • Responsible for the development, planning, execution, and closeout of all aspects of the portfolio management (with direct reports) throughout the project life cycle.
  • Responsible for timely issuance of field directives, obtaining costing concurrence from estimating, conversation to change orders, obtaining management approval to allow for accurate Estimated Final Cost (EFC) reporting and timely project closeout.
  • Functional expertise with the ability to grasp new concepts and to effectively solve problems related to the design, construction, and operation of mechanical utility systems, including: natural gas, potable water, wastewater, reclaimed water, compressed air, chilled water, hot water, and energy production.
  • Able to develop a project justification and build mitigation of operational impacts into the process.
  • Responsible for overall project safety, contractor project specific safety plan approval and compliance with the overall project safety plan
  • Develops bid strategies with Reedy Creek Energy Services/Reedy Creek Improvement District contract administrators.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of project schedules for all aspects and resources for the entire project life cycle.
  • Establishes critical path task to ensure schedule compliance and ensures proper resource loading to achieve desired completion date.
  • Understanding of construction procedures for mechanical systems, applicable codes, and requirements of local jurisdictional authorities.
  • Leads, mentors, and manages team to prioritize and accomplish high impact project activities.
  • Trains individuals on project management processes, professional development and looks for ways to incorporate diversity within the team.

Basic Qualifications/You Will Have

  • 7+ years of experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or project management delivering large initiatives in the construction or industrial industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods and the ability to interpret design drawings and specs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction and project management processes and purchasing/contract management.
  • Demonstrated expertise with construction finance (budgets, cash flows, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple complex projects while managing scheduling, operational, and financial constraints.
  • Proven ability to negotiate effective decision making with clients and internal/external service providers across all project phases.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or project management delivering large initiatives in the utility industry.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Registration as a professional engineer (PE) in the State of Florida
  • Proven ability to negotiate effective decision making with clients and internal/external service providers across all project phases.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, technology, engineering, or mathematics with the ability to obtain registration as a professional engineer (PE) in the State of Florida.
