Join the Claims team as a Senior Software Engineer focusing on Front End. The team is responsible for developing, maintaining, enhancing, and setting a high-quality bar for web and mobile apps which assists end users in taking control of their healthcare claims and benefits. The team has a strong and integrated relationship with the product team based on strong collaboration, trust and partnership. Goals for the team are focused on creating meaningful positive impact for our customers through clear and measurable metrics analysis.

As a Senior Front-End Software Engineer, you will have the role of champion for quality and engineering best practices, mentoring junior and peer co-workers, while bringing a fun and energizing experience to work every day for a fully remote team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write high-quality, fault tolerant code; normally 70% front end 30% backend
  • Build high-scale systems, libraries, frameworks and create test plans
  • Monitor production systems and provide on-call support
  • Design, Write and Test high-quality, fault-tolerant API code
  • Build high-scale systems, libraries, frameworks and create test plans
  • Establish and Implement software best practices
  • Build new products (code base is predominantly Scala/Play API tier powering numerous React frontends)
  • Foster culture of quality and engineering excellence
  • Evolve existing products
  • Be involved in the software lifecycle, from requirements gathering to development, testing, and releasing code
  • Be a member of a cross-functional team focused on understanding our members and building new tools to create awareness and engagement with the full range of tools and services available digitally
  • Partner with product management and engineering leadership to bring creative technology and solutions to solve healthcare problems
  • Accountable for Product quality along with the team. Support the application and keep the quality bar high
  • Interpreting requirements into application design
  • Agile development through collaborating with Business, Product, and QA
  • Ensuring the quality, architecture, and accuracy of released code
  • Be an individual contributor (very hands-on) as well as able to guide and mentor team members
  • CI/CD integration with Jenkins, GitHub
  • Familiar with Monitoring/Logging tools such as Splunk and Datadog
  • Understanding client strategy and business objectives
  • Ensuring on schedule, on budget, on scope delivery within client quality goals
  • As solutions are proposed, present cost impact analysis to our operating budget

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of real industry experience
  • 2+ years of coding experience with front-end frameworks using React
  • 2+ years of coding experience in Scala, Java, C# or other compiled language
  • Experience with CSS, web browsers, HTTP, cookies, caching, and HTML5
  • Experience using RESTful APIs and asynchronous JS
  • Unit testing experience
  • Commercial experience with distributed, high-performance systems
  • Experience integrating with third party APIs, and the ability to understand them in multiple formats
  • Experience developing, maintaining, versioning, monitoring, and deploying APIs and web microservices
  • Experience with Git

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical role or the equivalent experience
  • Experience with AWS EC2
  • Experience with Scala
  • Experience with cloud-based services and hosting
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration
  • Experience with SQL, Document, or Key Value databases.
  • Experience with production monitoring and support
  • Experience with MongoDB
  • Experience with Postgres

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
