JOB SUMMARY:
H&P is seeking an experienced internal communications professional to support our global rig operations. This is a new position that will act as a key business partner for our operations teams and provide communications counsel, content creation and tactical execution to help engage and connect our rig-based workforce.
In this role you’ll be a key member of H&P’s corporate communications team and advisor for operations leadership to provide recommendations on communications practices for this specific audience. From employee podcasts to safety campaigns, you will create unique, outside-the-box strategies to deliver the right message at the right time using the right channel to reach this remote audience.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter with a passion for people and bringing innovation to the field of corporate communications. The position will be hybrid, requiring 2-3 days working at our headquarters in Tulsa. Significant travel will also be required to remote rig sites and field offices across the country to gain feedback and build relationships at all levels of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
While there won’t be a “typical” day for this position, here are some of the responsibilities the job will include:
- Work with Internal Communications, Principal and other communications team members to develop rig communication strategy and execution
- Support operations leadership by recommending best practices to promote two-way communication with rig-based employees
- Create exciting and unique content to be shared internally and externally to drive change, promote clarity within the organization and foster employee recognition and H&P pride. This can include internal company news stories, videos, social media content, podcasts, digital signage, presentations, graphics, printed materials, etc.
- Partner and collaborate with Health, Safety and Environment teams to think of innovative ways to inspire our employees to keep safety top-of-mind and improve our culture of Actively C.A.R.E. (Control and Remove Exposures)
- Facilitate and participate on various cross-functional teams to recommend
- Frequent travel to rig locations to promote communication initiatives and collect feedback from rig employees
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
- 5+ years of experience in a similar communications role at a large, global organization.
- Proven experience working with a front-line, hourly workforce required. Energy industry or drilling experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and ability to learn additional software applications (Canto, Hootsuite, Adobe Creative Cloud)
- Able to communicate and relate to employees at various levels of the organization, from rig workers to executives
- Strong knowledge of AP style and expert corporate writing skills
- Previous experience managing projects with external creative agencies, including graphic design, video production and copywriting
- Willingness to travel (up to 25-40% at times) to remote rig locations across the US
- Able to work a hybrid schedule when not traveling, with 2-3 days in our Tulsa office
