Location: Loveland, CO

Division: Engineering/R&D

Compensation: $90,000 to $130,000 (Depends on experience)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and testing both systems and products to meet high level objectives as well as investigating new technologies. Our R&D Engineers create DVP & Rs for systems and designs as well as troubleshoot all new systems in the field and the lab. In addition to other responsibilities, as a Senior level position, the person in this role is responsible for helping mentor early career engineers and actively participating in knowledge transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and test new systems and products to meet high-level objectives
  • Investigate new technologies and components for application in Lightning Systems products
  • Create DVP&R’s for new systems and designs
  • Commission and troubleshoot new products, both in the lab and in the field
  • Refine complex data sets into usable information and reports
  • Create system-level designs of various mechatronics systems related to commercial EV’s
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Leadership: Desire to coach, mentor, and transfer knowledge to teammates, particularly early career engineers.

What we require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience in a directly related role
  • 5+ years in a controls systems engineering or software engineering position
  • Demonstrated experience writing control logic in Simulink, LabVIEW, Raptor, and/or Motohawk
  • Demonstrated experience with CAN bus diagnostics and data logging with CANalyzer, PCAN, and/or Kvaser
  • Knowledge of thermal management systems
  • Experience writing component and system specifications to meet high level objectives
  • Knowledge of Source Control Systems

What we prefer:

  • ABET certified degree program
  • ISO 26262 Familiarity
  • Cybersecurity Familiarity
  • 7+ years of experience in a controls systems engineering or software engineering role; experience in manufacturing, automotive, or related industry is highly desired
  • Experience with high-voltage DC systems—PHEV, EV, or FCEV applications are highly preferred
  • Understanding of basic EV system architecture and components
  • Experience turning customer expectations into engineering requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with wire harnesses and automotive electrical systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Controls/Mechatronics theory, interest, and practical experience

Engineering levels: all degrees should be in an Engineering related course of study. Any and all offers a commensurate with experience and education

  • Engineer levels I and II: up to 2 years of professional experience combined with a Bachelor’s, or an advance degree combined with some related work experience
  • Senior: minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s; or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree; or a PhD; or equivalent work experience
  • Lead: Minimum of 8 years of experience with a Bachelor’s; or 6 years of experience with a Master’s; or 3 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience
