Job Description


About the Role:

The Commodity Manager will oversee supplier contract negotiations, supplier qualification, supplier audit/scorecard and item master and attributes record. This individual will own the overall supplier relationship, supplier capacity planning and quarterly business reviews with key suppliers. This individual will work closely with the R&D teams to collaborate on the design and development of new products. Advise supply chain team in executing best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier qualifications and contracts for all critical suppliers
  • Lead supplier audits in assessing materials/capacity/production capabilities and overall business issues
  • Manage key suppliers to strengthen relationship while ensuring continuity of
  • supply and reducing business risks
  • Understand and communicate lead times, capacities, technology, and pricing trends to align Guardant Health to best-possible supply base.
  • Participate in supplier scorecards. Conduct quarterly business reviews with all critical vendors. Review vendor technology roadmap, financial risk assessment.
  • Develop contingency plans in addressing sole source issues and recommend additional supply risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead corporate initiatives resulting in product cost savings strategies.
  • Maintain and update item master record to sure matches supplier contracted pricing and lead time and other critical attributes.
  • Work with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans and strategies, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability.

Production support – Strategic Commodities

  • Support Supply Chain leadership in one or multiple sites to ensure alignment of supplier risks
  • Manage weekly/monthly/quarterly metrics to manage:
    • Material shortage issues. Manage shortage gap analysis to understand shortage gaps 4-5 weeks in advance.
    • Receiving and accounts payable problem issues.
    • Create and maintain item attributes (external and internal lead time, cost, MOQ, supplier, lot sizing, safety stock etc.)
    • Coordinate MRB supplier issues and corrective actions. Manage MRB aging targets per Guardant Health’s goals.
    • Coordinate engineering change-order implementation with suppliers.
    • Review PPV and E&O monthly.
  • Actively manage contract manufacturers, share rolling forecasts, manage the right supply/safety stock levels to ensure quick turn around on changes.
  • Lead resolutions for custom issues for international shipments and receipts.

  • Past-due P.O.s, MRB aging/cost reduction

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is a desired but not a must; or equivalent related experience required
  • C.P.M. and/or C.P.I.M. preferred but not required
  • A minimum of 8 years related experience
  • A minimum of 8 years related experience in purchasing and inventory control experience including the management of strategic commodities, contracts, and suppliers within a Biotech and turnkey environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, word processing, Microsoft Excel and
  • Outlook required
  • A minimum of 8 years related experience in Supply Chain and Materials Management with a minimum of 3 years in commodity management or direct supervision
  • Effective negotiating methods and complex contract writing required
  • General purchase terms and conditions required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present to senior management
  • Commodity-specific knowledge preferred
  • Fundamentals of just-in-time techniques required
  • MRP/ERP systems knowledge required
  • Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, internet, e-mail required

Other:

  • 10% to 20% Travel
  • Use of computer, and or telephone for long periods of time may be necessary.
  • A considerable amount of time can be spent listening, and communicating including face to face discussions clients and other people
  • Some time may be spent communicating in various written forms including presentation material and email with other people
  • At times, stress may be experienced

Hybrid Work Model
: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Covid Vaccination Policy: Guardant Health requires all employees to be fully vaccinated. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $55,440 to $85,600. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $79,200 to $107,000. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
