Climate Finance Access Network (CFAN)

Program Overview

The Climate Finance Access Network (CFAN) was established to support the most vulnerable developing countries in accessing finance to achieve their climate objectives. By cultivating a network of highly trained climate finance advisors, CFAN builds the capacity of developing countries to (1) identify the sources and instruments for delivering climate finance, (2) establish relationships with climate finance providers, and (3) structure financing for mitigation and adaptation investments. CFAN works across developing countries with a focus on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific, the Caribbean and Africa.

RMI, as CFAN Network Coordinator is responsible for the operationalization and expanding of the Network, for designing and implementing CFAN’s advisor training program, supporting climate finance advisors working in-country, building long-term country capacity beyond the tenure of CFAN advisors, and facilitating collaboration among CFAN’s institutional members. The growing CFAN's membership includes 20+ organizations working to improve climate finance access and impact in most vulnerable developing countries.

Position Overview

CFAN is seeking a Senior Associate to join a growing team implementing this new international climate finance initiative. The successful candidate will support the implementation of CFAN’s network services, including the coordination of advisors in Pacific SIDS, directly liaising with country governments and building relationships between national, regional and international entities supporting the provision of climate finance in the Pacific. They will also contribute to the development and implementation of CFAN’s state of the art Climate Finance Training Program.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in project preparation and development, training and capacity building and a strong understanding of the international climate finance landscape.

Senior Associates support a wide range of activities, including stakeholder engagement and management, strategy development, planning and facilitation of workshops and events, and writing and research. Because CFAN’s work is heavily focused on working in partnership with network members initiatives and country representatives, outreach and engagement are major components of this role.

Start date: January 2023 (possibility to start part time if internally hiring)

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of CFAN’s multi-month advisor training program, including providing logistical and operational support for in-country workshops and activities
• Support stakeholder engagement and management at a range of institutions, including international financial institutions, multilateral climate funds, bilateral donors and development banks, national climate policymakers, and other technical assistance partners, non-profits and research organizations
• Support the preparation of proposals, pitch decks, grant reports and other donor-facing materials

• Support the design and facilitating meetings and workshops for CFAN member initiatives, advisors, and other stakeholders
• Support communications efforts (e.g., through blogs and other digital content)
• Support the implementation of the advisor training program
• Represent RMI and CFAN at conferences and events internally and externally
• Lead and conduct research and analysis

• Lead the preparation of policy briefs, market assessments, and other program materials
• Lead in coordinating with external stakeholders and conducting outreach
• Design and help execute external meetings, presentations, and workshops
• Assist more senior staff in developing and designing initiatives strategy
• Lead in the development and management of work plans for specific workstreams

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate degree or equivalent experience in an applicable field such as international relations, finance, public policy.

• 5+ years’ of work experience in a related field.
• Experience working with/in developing countries.
• Fluency in English and French.

Preferred knowledge, skills, experience, and competencies:

• Experience with and/or knowledge of requirements of multilateral climate funds like the Green Climate Fund, Adaptation Fund, Global Environmental Facility, etc.
• Experience working with international partners and attuned to and comfortable navigating diverse cultural contexts
• Experience with and/or knowledge of the financial system, and sustainable finance, and/or securing finance for climate investment projects.
• Familiarity and/or experience with country operating and investment environment contexts and challenges in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific, Caribbean, and/or Africa
• Experience with and/or knowledge of climate finance, sustainable development, and project finance for both adaptation and mitigation

• Experience working at the nexus of climate change, gender equality, climate justice and human rights issues
• Experience planning or facilitating events and workshops (both in-person and virtual), and strong external engagement skills
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to work both independently and as a highly collaborative team player

Location

We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located anywhere in the continental United States (with a preference for Eastern time zone), Europe or Africa.

We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Senior Associates join at the minimum to mid salary range of $79,000-$93,000. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
