This position is located in Madison Wisconsin.
The Senior Accountant will develop and maintain SOX compliant internal control structures over general ledger and financial reporting, with a specific focus on IPEs.

• Work with Business Partners on strategic initiatives, new products, required system changes, changes in accounting regulations.
• External Statutory financial reporting on a statistical, product and company level (L&H)
• Monthly close cycle monitoring and process improvements
• Ensure appropriate accounting, reporting, analysis, and reconciliation of a comprehensive range of accounts including cash, reserves, taxes, insurance product revenues and expenses, and equity accounts
• Develop and maintain SOX compliant internal control structures over general ledger and financial reporting, with a specific focus on IPEs
• Work with Business Partners on strategic initiatives, new products, required system changes, changes in accounting regulations
• Coordinate and draft responses to External Auditors and State Regulators
• Monitor, interpret and maintain compliance with changing technical rules and regulations
• Researches and determines appropriate accounting for complex issues or large projects
• Uses considerable latitude in approach and analysis
• Independently interprets results and provides alternatives for consideration
• Will peer review and approve work of others

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of experience
• Master's degree or CPA preferred
• Experienced with data management, analysis, and controls considerations
• Process improvement mind-frame including evaluation of workflows/processes across departments/design of workflows
• Advanced technical knowledge of accounting and skills for specialized software applications (general ledger, statement software, reconciliation software, in addition to a solid skill base in Microsoft Office products)
• Ability to manage projects across departments
• Strong written communication skills
• Potential for advancement

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Heavy workload during quarter-end and year-end requiring additional commitment
• Responsible for two separate technical accounting frameworks: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) generic to all industries as well as Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) which is unique to the insurance industry.
