Senior Accountant Position

Description

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant prepares various financial transactions and reports, resolves account discrepancies, analyzes financial transactions, and ensures compliance with accounting and auditing standards. This individual assists the Controller and acts as a liaison to members of the accounting department and other departments across the organization.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Balances and reconciles various general ledger and internal bank use accounts.
  • Reviews and clears general ledger suspense accounts daily.
  • Maintains and analyzes assets and liabilities (accruals) to ensure proper recognition of income and expenses in appropriate accounting periods.
  • Researches and resolves reconciling items.
  • Prepares various managerial and regulatory financial reports.
  • Creates accounting entries and reporting related to Other Real Estate (ORE).
  • Assists with accounts payable, fixed assets, and property taxes.
  • Assists with annual reporting process to regulatory agencies.
  • Assists in the development of process improvements and documentation.
  • Serves as a backup for other critical accounting tasks.
  • Assists with profitability reporting and cost center allocations.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Creates and updates complex spreadsheets.
  • Performs other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, business administration or related field.

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent judgement and analysis skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized – able to multi-task without creating stress.
  • Must have strong computer skills with advanced Excel skills and ability to learn new software.
  • Must be detail-oriented while still cognizant of the big picture.
  • Dedicated to follow up and follow through on routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of financial accounting for banks.
  • Public accounting experience in a local or regional firm.
