The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential. By using a blend of internal and external technologies and capabilities, we work to discover and deliver first-in-class as well as best-in-class molecules that warrant clinical evaluation for patient benefit.

The Discovery Biotherapeutics group at Bristol Myers Squibb in San Diego is seeking a versatile and self-motivated candidate with background in protein engineering to join our Binder Discovery group. The successful candidate, with experience and thorough understanding of protein structure, will join a team that focuses on creative approaches to discover and develop novel biotherapeutic drugs across a number of modalities and programs in oncology, neuroscience, and immune sciences. The ideal candidate will explore innovative engineering solutions to create novel protein-based therapeutics with next-gen designs in generating proof-of-concept data leading to programs into the discovery pipeline.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Protein construct design and production in mammalian cells
  • Protein purification by various chromatographies (Protein A, SEC, IEC, Ni-NTA etc) and characterization using various analytical techniques
  • Fluency with generating and applying computational predictions and structural analysis to enable drug discovery projects (e.g. Schrodinger, MOE, and/or Rosetta)
  • Data analysis, report writing and presentations in team/departmental meetings

Basic Qualifications;

  • Bachelor's Degree in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline and 5+ years of academic / industry experience
  • Or
  • Master's Degree in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline and 3+ years of academic / industry experience
  • Or
  • PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline No experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline ; Master’s degree with at least 3 years of post-graduate experience
  • Advanced understanding in protein chemistry and protein structure-function relationship
  • Translating predictions and structural information to hands-on designs and protein production, purification, and other protein analytical techniques
  • Some experience with protein-protein binding assays (Biacore, Octet) desired
  • Familiarity in AI/ML, protein structure determination or display technologies is a plus

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $ 97,000 - $135, 300 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the where the job is performed.

Final individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
