The Wake County Health and Human Services School Health Program is the largest school health program in North Carolina and the 14th largest school health program in the United States. Our School Health Program provides nursing services to 193 Wake County public schools, plus pre-school programs and alternative high schools. The program consists of 104 school nursing positions. School nurses serve 2 to 3 Wake County Schools each. Nursing hours per school are allocated based on an acuity model correlating to student population and school needs. We are currently seeking a School Health - Registered Nurse to join this dynamic team and make an immediate impact in our community!

School Health - Registered Nurses do much more than just apply bandages, take temperatures, and dispense medication! This position is responsible for providing health services to a combination of elementary, middle and/or high schools in the Wake County Public School System. Additionally, this role promotes and ensures the health and safety of Wake County Public School students. The School Health -Registered Nurse provides consultation on communicable disease, immunization compliance, and medication administration in the school setting. Also, this position provides case management and chronic disease management for students.

Additional responsibilities of the School Health - Registered Nurse include:

• Health care plan development
• Implementation and evaluation for individual students
• Delegation of nursing tasks to non-licensed personnel
• Collaboration with school staff, physicians, families, and community partners to obtain services for families and students
• Providing training and supervision as well as serving as a consultant to school staff regarding health issues

NOTE: Wake County Human Services employees are required to be in their current role for a minimum of one (1) year to be eligible to apply for another Human Services position. Upon acceptance of employment you acknowledge that (i) you will rescind your application for any other positions within Wake County Human Services, (ii) after accepting your position with Wake County Human Services you must remain in your role for one (1) year before you are eligible to apply for another position within Wake County Human Services, (iii) if you work in the Health Clinics and Public Health Division, influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law, (iv) actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $43.00 per hour
