Purpose of Santa Fe Apprentice Role*:
The Santa Fe Apprentice is responsible to the Santa Fe Artistic Director for ensuring the artistic and administrative success of the Dance Barns and Outreach Programs, and for carrying out the mission of the organization with excellence. The Santa Fe Apprentice is a member of the organization’s artistic staff.

Primary Responsibilities*:
Administrative

  • Supports the Santa Fe Outreach Producer with administrative duties for Santa Fe outreach programs and associated events and activities, including box office, SWAT/Cel administration and supervision.
  • Supports the Dance Barns Artistic Director with administrative duties as needed, including research, program promotion and extension programming, special events.
  • Supports production of all performances and presentations at The Dance Barns, providing backstage and/or front of house support, including acting as a stage manager, runner, or other roles.
  • Supports administration and production of associated programs, projects and events, including Thank You Project, Dance-A-Thon, special events off-site, Teaching Excellence, and others as needed

Artistic- Teaching, Choreographing, and Directing

  • Apprentices/assists outreach classes, and over time takes on lead teaching in limited in-school programs in Santa Fe and Residency programs. Apprentices approximately 10-15 hrs/week in Santa Fe Outreach programs (with occasional work in Albuquerque, if needed)
  • Teaches approximately 4-5 ballet classes in The Dance Barns program, and apprentices/assists in 2-3 classes/week with Dance Barns AD and other faculty to train in afterschool pedagogy and curriculum
  • Apprentices/Teaches 3-5 weeks of Residencies during the year
  • Creates choreography for programs as needed
  • Teaches in outreach and afterschool summer programs as needed
  • Participates in monthly apprentice training workshops
  • Teaches and subs in other related programs as needed

General Duties: *

  • Schedules regular office hour time
  • Attends all enrichment workshops and meetings, including artistic and joint staff meetings
  • Compiles program reference materials
  • Upholds all Management and HR policies and procedures
  • Other duties as needed

Working Conditions, Environment and Physical Requirements: *

  • Functions performed in a variety of environments including NDI New Mexico offices, schools, residency sites, and other locations
  • Requires reimbursable in-state travel to NDI New Mexico locations, participating schools, residency sites, and community events
  • Requires weekend and evening hours.
  • Requires extensive physical movement, dance, high energy, and stamina
  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs.

  • Professional performance experience
  • College level education preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in job-related duties
  • Flexibility in work schedule

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
