Job Description:


The Sanitation Coordinator is responsible of ensuring the effectiveness of the cleaning and sanitization program to maintain an appropriate environment for the manufacture of safe products. Also, assigns the sanitation team activities and provides coaching and guidance to team members. This position is also responsible of scheduling specialized cleaning work to comply with our MSS program with minimal disruption to operations, coordinates escalated and corrective cleaning efforts as well. The Coordinator works alongside with the team and steps in as needed to ensure maximum productivity. The Coordinator is also responsible of following and enforcing all personnel safety, GMP and PEP policies/procedures, the coordinator is required to ensure that the facility is always maintained at the highest level of cleanliness. Directs the activities of the Sanitation team to support the shift within the plant organization. Provides leadership to one shift supporting 24/7 operation. Helps develop and execute training programs related to sanitation and chemical control. Highly Involved in preventative programs, process optimization efforts, problem solving and troubleshooting efforts for resolution of cleaning and sanitation incidents, EMMP positives, roof leaks, etc. Additional, ensures proper purchasing and inventory control of all cleaning and chemical supplies and tools. Conducts manufacturing facility audits as appropriate to ensure and verify sanitation programs effectiveness. Maintains Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) in support of The Hershey Company’s PEP program. This position must comply with GMP standards to ensure the safety and quality of our products. Major Duties/Responsibilities:


1. Ensure the effectiveness of the MSS (Master Sanitation Program) through:
  • Develop cleaning protocols and associated procedures for each area or equipment.
  • Plan the times required to clean the different areas.
  • Ensure corrective Actions are in place for cleaning deviations.
2. Ensures the effectiveness of the water device control program through:
  • Install and maintain all water collection devices.
  • Coordinate all escalated and corrective cleanings.
3. Comply with sanitation budget, purchase, and administer the replenishment of all chemical and cleaning supplies and tools.
4. Follow up on deviations found in internal audits, in terms of documentation, cleaning of facilities and production lines.
5. Coordinate disposals of non-conforming product, equipment and waste with external vendors.
6. Ensure compliance with chemical control, pest control, GMP's, PEP and HACCP programs.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:


  • Knowledge of sanitation, pest control, water control, chemical management, EMMP programs.
  • Knowledge of quality system requirements – Food Safety, Hershey PEP, HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), etc.
  • Computer, document management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written form to upper management.
  • Ability to train and develop self and others.
  • Strong Leadership Skills and ability to influence and coordinate group activities.
  • Strong problem solving/trouble shooting skills.
  • Willing to work overtime, holidays, off shifts and weekends as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED plus demonstrated Sanitation and Management experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, primarily utilizing Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced environment and promote positive relations with all team members.
  • Understanding of general food safety and industrial safety requirements.
  • Minimum of 1 year(s) of related supervisory/lead/coordinator experience required.
  • Sanitation/Microbiology related experience in a high-speed automated Consumer Goods manufacturing environment preferred (e.g. production of food, beverages, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, household goods, and/or tobacco).
  • Cleaning Chemicals knowledge
