Job description
Safety is a top priority at Granger. We are hiring a safety specialist to apply MIOSHA knowledge and experience to continuously improve the work being done in our maintenance shops, landfills, recycle and transfer stations.
Here is a preview of the scope of this new role:
- 6 locations across Michigan
- Home office in Lansing, MI
- Over 130 routed trash trucks, 2 landfills, 2 transfer stations, 5 maintenance shops, a recycle center and various office settings
- Safety responsibilities across all locations and work environments
A typical day will include:
- Playing a key role in the Granger safety management program by implementing and monitoring activities to promote safe behaviors for both Granger associates, subcontractors and customers accessing our facilities
- Supporting the full circle of successful safety outcomes including setting goals, identifying, and assisting with needed training, creating documentation standards, auditing, and adjusting when needed
- Coordinate and conduct periodic safety meetings with associates to collect information and communicate safety messages, various initiatives, and the overall importance of workplace safety
- Identify needed training opportunities and work with the training team to develop and measure the long-term success of training initiatives
- Conduct ongoing safety training events, talks and messaging to keep safety at the forefront of the workday
- Conduct random inspections to assess compliance and areas for improvement, taking needed action to resolve deficiencies
- Apply a strong working knowledge of MIOSHA standards.
Where is what we are looking for in a qualified candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety related field strongly preferred, or equivalent work experience
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation preferred
- 3+ years prior experience in a safety and compliance position to include administering a comprehensive safety program
- Strong working knowledge of MIOSHA and other state/federal safety related regulations
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft and other data management tools to access data and utilize for quality decision making
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to travel to all locations regularly
