Job Description

The Safety Officer develops and executes health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines. Prepares and enforces policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Evaluates practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The Safety Officer/Coordinator reports to the CTAE Director and Director of FF&G

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ Years working in a field where occupational safety is emphasized
• OSHA General Industry or Construction Industry Standards and Train the Trainer Certification
• Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
• Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
• Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
• Excellent organizational and motivational skills
• Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
• Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law.

DUTIES:

• Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
• Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
• Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
• Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
• Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
• Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
• Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
• Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
• Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
• Oversee department and CTAE safety audit and inspection programs, make recommendations for the mitigation of hazards and maintain records, and
• Conduct accident and incident investigations, determine probable causes, and make recommendations for corrective action.
• Chairs the District Safety Committee
• Maintains a presence within the building(s) during the school day and assists with various administrative duties, as directed by the Principal.
• Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Principal and/or Superintendent-Director may assign.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work is performed both indoors, and outside in inclement weather. Work involves potential exposure to temperature extremes and noise. Lifting, pushing and pulling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally heavier is required; Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing stairs. The work requires frequent in- and out-of-district travel.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• This is a 210-day position.
• The nature of this position requires hours beyond the regular school day. It is expected that the person filling this position will give priority to completing the necessary tasks and set hours accordingly.
