Summary Description: Is responsible for a team of residents to render general nursing care in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Prepares equipment and aids Physicians during treatments and examinations of residents.
  • Observes resident, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies Nurse Supervisor or Physicians of residents? condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents.
  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and determines progress of residents.
  • Performs duties as outlined for Nursing Assistants in performing daily duties, as needed.
  • Administers specified medications and notes time and amount on resident?s chart.
  • Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen suppliers.
  • Performs routine lab work such as urinalysis and acc checks
  • Shift to shift report to other nurses, as well as, NA.S.
  • Answer telephone inquiries.
  • Takes and transcribes physicians? orders, as directed by supervisor.
  • Assists with orientation, instruction and supervision of other nursing personnel.
  • Evaluates resident?s needs, condition and care, and assist in developing nursing care plan for individual residents, including rehabilitative and restorative activities, and instruction in self-help.
  • Checks resident identification, physician?s orders, resident?s medical and social history prior to administering treatment.
  • Requisitions and arranges for diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered by residents? physician from departments within the institution or from outside facilities.
  • Sends diet orders to dietary department.
  • Periodically reviews resident care plans with supervisor and resident?s physician.
  • Maintains unit records and performs charting duties.
  • Maintains narcotics records; completes required forms and reports.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled in-service programs and staff meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of necessary information.
  • Utilizes supplies and equipment properly and without waste.
  • Thinks and acts calmly and logically to meet unusual occurrences of the job without being thrown off stride.
  • Weekly decub assessments.
  • Assist RCC with any appropriate assignments.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
