THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION. 13-WEEK ASSIGNMENT WITH ELEVATED PAY RATE.


SCHEDULE:
Three 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.


RESPONSIBILITIES
:


Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms and psychological needs.


Re-assesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.


Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on interpretation of facts and evaluation of patient outcome; modifies plan of care based on evaluations.


Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning. Functions as resource to visitors, physicians and staff; greets them promptly and courteously


Maintain team assignments and makes task adjustments based upon patient needs; oversees patient care tasks that are delegated to others in order to ensure quality and completeness.


Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.


Participates in orientation of new staff/students on unit.


Administers medications and performs nursing tasks (IV starts, Foley catheter insertion, etc.) according to established standard of care upon demonstration of competency. Keeps patients and families updated on progress of care while in department. Complies with behavioral standards of JMH. Treats all patients/families with respect and practices excellent customer service behaviors.


Participates in PI plan to improve organizational performance and achieve unit and organizational goals.


Answers telephone calls when unit secretary is unavailable or busy and relays messages or transfers call to appropriate staff member.


Answers IHERN radio and receives information from EMT/Paramedic to prepare for care of incoming ambulance patients.


Completes order entry in computer per protocols.


Maintains confidentiality of patient related issues. Supports the Patient Bill of Rights and Hospital Mission and Values.


Attends and participates in unit related in services, conferences and meetings.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required. Previous nursing experience (at least one year) desirable. Emergency nursing experience highly desired. Must successfully complete CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) during orientation. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be completed within one year of hire. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) courses are recommended but not required. Must stay current in certifications. CEN is encouraged
