Resident Assistant - CBRF Certified

Washington County, located in West Bend Wisconsin has an excellent opportunity as a Casual Resident Assistant within The Fields on 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts. Starting hourly rate $23.03 ($17.03/hr base rate + $6.00/hr premium), based on experience.

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • CBRF Certified
  • A negative tuberculin test results prior to the first day of employment
  • Evidence of related continuing education on a regular basis (12 contact hours per year)
  • Long term care experience is preferred
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test before start of employment

Duties/Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all‑inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Works with residents or tenants, giving total care or assists with: bed bath, tub bath or shower; dental, hair and nail care, shaving, dressing and undressing, application of make up; elimination needs, including toileting by offering bedpan, urinal or taking to bathroom; ambulating, transferring, positioning by using assisting devices such as a walker, wheelchair, sit to stand, mechanical lift, transfer belt, lift sheets.
  • Engages residents/tenants in activities and contributes to their overall quality of life.
  • Answers all call lights promptly.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse and respiration.
  • Assists with nutritional and hydration needs, maintains intake and output as requested, weighs residents as instructed.
  • Observes and reports physical and/or behavioral changes in resident immediately to the charge nurse or direct supervisor.
  • Works tactfully and cooperatively with residents, families, visitors and the entire staff throughout the organization.
  • Knows and follows existing lines of communication and authority.
  • Performs all resident cares as assigned and according to the resident’s plan of care or the individualized service plan and follows Samaritan's policies and procedures.
  • Participates in activities and rehabilitation programs for residents as directed; to encourage realistic and optimal resident independence and highest practicable well being.
  • Attends mandatory inservices; obtains continuing education hours per year to comply with licensing and certification requirements.
  • Changes schedules and/or works overtime occasionally to meet the needs of the department.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all residents, department and organizational information.
  • Assures that all resident rights are maintained at all times.Reports any violations or suspected deviations immediately according to Samaritan policy.
  • CBRF/RCAC staff required to distribute medications as per individualized service plan and as per regulatory requirements.
  • Follows all safety, security, infection control and hazardous materials policies and procedures.
  • Performs all tasks to assure resident/tenant and personal safety and the protection of property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.
  • Maintains a clean work environment. Keeps resident rooms neat and clutter free.

Work Direction Received: Works under the general direction of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse.

Decision Making: Decisions concerning work priorities and other daily assignments are made independently or as directed by the supervisor.

Interaction: There is interaction with residents, families, visitors, and entire Samaritan Campus staff.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of principles and methods of person centered resident care and knowledge of first-aid practices. Ability to maintain a calm attitude and to interact tactfully and effectively with others. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to perform manual tasks associated with the personal care and hygiene of the elderly, confused, and emotionally upset in a safe and mature manner. Requires compassion, empathy, and an understanding of resident care. Ability to function effectively as a team member in providing services and care. Demonstrates an interest in learning a willingness to participate in classroom experiences related to care of the elderly. Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to keep residents/tenants safe and free from harm at all times during tour of duty. Able to fulfill physical demands of job, sensory demands (seeing and hearing), and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization).

Training and Experience: High School diploma or GED. Must have a CBRF certification (for CBRF and RCAC only). Good physical health to enable heavy lifting of residents; good emotional health, good reading, comprehension and writing skills. Evidence of related continuing education on a regular basis (15 contact hours for CBRF/RCAC staff). Long term care experience is preferred.

Work Setting/Environment: Work is performed predominantly indoors in a well-lit clean environment. . Heat, air conditioning and humidity are controlled. There are occupational exposures to blood, body tissues and fluids. Exposure to loud or unpleasant voices and bodily injury may occur on an occasional basis.

Equipment used include but are not limited to: adaptive devices, tubs, call system, cane, scales, commode, bed, thermometer, time clock, wheelchair, transfer belt, broda chair, gloves, mechanical lift, personal protective equipment, lapboard, linen cart, microwave oven, nail clipper, phone, electric razors, serving trays, Code Alert system.
