Scope of Position:

This position is for a Research Scientist in high data rate optical transmission systems. The candidate should be knowledgeable of high data rate optical transmission systems, including coherent optical transmission and IMDD systems. Ideally the candidate should have relevant industrial experience in coherent transmission, digital signal processing in coherent receivers, and optical components and modules. We are looking for a strong leader and team player who is curious about future technologies, has a proven track recorder of critical thinking and effective skills in solving real-world problems with invention and innovation. As a subject matter expert and thought leader, the candidate will have the opportunities to propose and lead research initiatives, collaborate with multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams, and drive technological advancement and new scientific discovery to support current and future business in optical communications. She or he will be responsible of developing tools and concepts in anticipation of future state of technology for the business, as well as provide troubleshooting support or testing for businesses that do not have the capability.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Acts as technical expert or Subject Matter Expert in high data rate optical communication systems, advanced modulation formats and digital signal processing.
  • Designs and executes experiments to solve complex problems or develop new processes or products.
  • Leverages fundamental understanding to develop tools and concepts in anticipation of future state of technology for the business.
  • Document research findings in internal research reports, invention disclosures and contributes to refereed publications.
  • Provides expertise in setting up testing laboratories for the businesses.
  • Leads and/or participates on cross-functional technical teams.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Optical Communications, Electric Engineering or relevant discipline.

Required Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge, and hands-on experiences of Coherent Optical communication systems including fiber optics, advanced modulations formats, DSP
  • Demonstrated ability to design, and execute system testing of components including optical components and modules
  • Has knowledge of transmission systems for submarine, terrestrial, metro and access networks
  • Has strong approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Has demonstrated ability to document experimental results in reports and publications

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge and experiences in passive and active photonic devices
  • Knowledge of optical transmission technology for Data Centers
  • Knowledge of optical network architectures

Soft Skills:

  • Must be a team player
  • Effective communicator in a variety of formal presentation settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, with peers, direct reports, and management.
  • Can effectively deal with changes and uncertainty

Travel Requirements: <10%
