GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and
level of work performed.
The research assistant will work with researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and
the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health on the Nurses’ Health Study 3 (NHS3) and
the Growing Up Today Studies (GUTS). The RA will primarily be involved in the day-to-
day operations of the cohorts, including answering participant inquiries, preparing
reports for biweekly cohort meetings, setting meeting agendas, taking meeting minutes,
updating the internal and external websites for each cohort, developing and editing
cohort newsletters, developing and checking questionnaires, identifying new cases of
disease for medical record review and confirmation, and other duties as necessary. She
will be the primary liaison between the broader study team and a substudy focused on
the role of fathers in child development, helping to integrate the tasks of that substudy
into the timelines of the broader study.. She will also learn basic qualitative methods
research, produce simple data tabulations in SAS or R, and will create online
questionnaires in REDCap for various NHS3 and GUTS projects. She will, as needed,
serve as a resource on REDCap to other research assistants working on the cohorts and
its related substudies.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility,
major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items
should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
The RA will be responsible for day to day operations of the cohorts, under the direction
of a project coordinator, the cohort director, and the cohort principal investigator, and
with assistance from the cohort programmers. She will work closely with various
substudy teams to ensure online questionnaires are developed and tested in a timely
fashion, and will assist with producing reports on study progress. She will also assist
with preparation of scientific manuscripts, literature searches, and other tasks as
necessary. She will serve as a resource on RECap to other research assistants as
necessary, focusing on questionnaire flow, logic programming and checking, and
REDCap related security features.

QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and
related to the essential functions of the job.)
Bachelors degree • Understanding of Microsoft Office and Adobe products• Ability to
handle sensitive and confidential information • Ability to work both independently and as
part of a team essential • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Knowledge of
literature search procedures
