Job Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Research Assistant position.
The individual in this position will be responsible for performing mouse colony management and mouse genotyping on various transgenic strains.
Research Assistants support researchers in planning, maintaining or completing research programs and/or projects involved in the discovery of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts that require fundamental scientific/research knowledge, skills, and abilities following relevant policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Essential Functions
- Performs mouse colony management; performs mouse genotyping on various transgenic strains; harvests mouse brain tissue and perform histological processing and analysis; record and analyze data from behavioral experiments with mice, such as analyzing sleep/wake states based on EEG data; assists with running behavioral experiments with mice; maintain lab routines; prepare data and graphs for presentation; assists in the development of research proposals, plans and protocols; conducts routine or fundamental experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts.
- Assists with logistical considerations to include equipment, materials, and labor needs.
- Collects data/samples related to others’ research and in routine cases. Records, compiles, processes and analyzes data/samples.
- Documents results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others.
- May assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include assisting in literature reviews and assisting in the writing of results and discussions.
- May instruct students and/or supervise others’ research in area of expertise

Depending upon the combination of education and experience, the qualified candidate will be hired as a Research Assistant and assigned levels I, II, III, or IV.
- Level I requires: a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or a related field and no experience.
- Level II requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or a related field and 2 years of experience.
- Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or a related field and 4 years of experience.
- Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or a related field and 6 years of experience.
