The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.

We are seeking a Rehabilitation Care Aide to perform work in the care and training of consumers with disabilities in an educational rehabilitation facility.

This position will work primarily third shift hours, with weekend requirements, to provide residential support services for McDowell Center students and will be the primary professional to staff the McDowell Center dormitory during the third shift hours.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitors facility consumer dormitory and/or consumer lobby areas to ensure vocational rehabilitation consumers adhere to facility policies and procedures concerning their living conditions, their clothing and dress expectations, their personal habit expectations, their conduct, and to ensure they adhere to policies and procedures put into place to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
  • Monitors consumers' activities and behaviors and intervenes when necessary to ensure that the living conditions and overall atmosphere are maintained so that consumers are able to fully participate in scheduled program activities; completes reports concerning consumers' behaviors and notifies staff of unusual behaviors or behaviors that need to be addressed.
  • Encourages consumers to adhere to scheduled program activities that are in place to provide social, vocational, and/or motor skill development; assists consumers with communications with family members while they are residing at the facility; answers incoming calls; and distributes mail.
  • Assists consumers with obtaining consumable supplies when they are needed; assists consumers with mobility limitations when needed.
  • Participates in emergency drills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
