Referral Coordinator

Marathon Health is seeking a full-time Referral Coordinator to work collaboratively with our team serving the employees and families that visit our on-site and near-site corporate health and wellness centers. This is a remote position.

This is a 40 hour per week position with excellent compensation and full benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), FSA, life and disability, paid time off and holidays.

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8am - 5pm (EST)

Responsibilities:
The Referral Coordinator will facilitate referrals for Marathon Health patients who require healthcare services beyond the scope of our clinics. Serve as a primary liaison between the patient and the specialist or facility, ensuring that the patient's preferences (urgency, availability, location, cost sensitivity, etc.) are gathered and communicated in a timely and efficient manner. Work closely with local and/or regional providers to ensure services are established with minimum delay or impact to patient care.
  • Interview patients for medical information necessary to make appropriate referral
  • Identify potential referral providers or facilities using various tools and applications on the basis of cost, location, availability, and quality
  • Schedule appointments; communicate details of appointment (including charges, pre-referral directions and instructions, and other necessary information) to patient to ensure appropriate referral experience
  • Enter and validate information in various databases and applications, such as Salesforce and Excel
  • Educate patients about healthcare jargon— "Pre-certs," "deductibles," "allowables," "plan eligibility," etc.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in nursing, medical assisting, or other clinical degree preferred
  • Experience in medical office, central scheduling, or in a clinical navigator role required
  • Knowledge of and experience with medical terminology and procedural coding required; includes ability to interpret insurance information
  • Experience with insurance plans, third-party payer practices and guidelines, and pre-certification and referral management for insurance plans required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of customer service best practices
  • Ability to manage tasks/projects with aggressive deadlines/time-sensitivity
  • Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities
  • Proficiency with computers and strong typing skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • This position is 100% remote. Candidate must have a quiet space where virtual meetings can occur without disruption or background noise. Candidates are responsible for providing adequate internet bandwidth to maintain high quality connections.
